Obama leads all GOP candidates in Va., poll finds

By: Wesley P. Hester

President Barack Obama enjoys a healthy advantage over all Republican presidential candidates in Virginia, a new poll shows, with his eight-point lead over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney the largest to date.

Obama leads Romney 50 percent to 42 percent, according to the Quinnipiac University poll. That’s double the president’s four-point lead last month.

“The president’s lead over Romney in Virginia is due mainly to his strong margin among women, 52–39 percent, but he also wins 48 percent of men to Romney’s 45 percent,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

The president holds a slightly larger edge over former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, 49 percent to 40 percent. He leads former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Rep. Ron Paul by double digits.

Adding Gov. Bob McDonnell to the ticket does little to help Romney here. In a hypothetical Obama-Biden/Romney-McDonnell match-up, Democrats win 50 percent to 43 percent.

The GOP's big overreach on Women's issues should be the nail in the coffin here.

to win. We've been watching how ruthless they are for many years. We see how mitt and rick lie about the president's positions on a daily basis. However, it is somewhat comforting to see the polls showing that thus far, the public is not being fooled. Of course that could all change tomorrow.

4. Agreed. The state by state polling is much better than I would have thought a few months ago

Remember, the GOP MUST WIN Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia. If anyone one of these states goes to Obama, the election is over.

We are in a good position right now. But there is still a long way to go.

Romney paraphrasing... If women want free birth control, they should vote for the other guy. I wish I was making commercials for Obama and the DNC.

together with his let the auto companies go belly-up (paraphrasing - see Mitt, we can do it too.. ) is enough to let the voters know that mitt is not on the side of the middle class.
