Christie Hits Back: Bridge Official Will 'Say Anything To Save' Himself

In an email leaked Saturday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie responded more vigorously to new allegations by his former Port Authority appointee that he knew more about the George Washington Bridge lane closures than he has admitted.

The 700-word email, reported by Politico, is titled "5 Things You Should Know About The Bombshell That's Not A Bombshell." It was sent to friends and allies, according to the news outlet.

Christie's office attacked the New York Times's portrayal of the revelations, reasserted Christie's truthfulness in the past and attacked the credibility of the official, David Wildstein, whose attorney claimed that “evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what" Christie said in a January press conference.

"Bottom line - David Wildstein will do and say anything to save David Wildstein," the email concludes.

Christie's initial statement, issued after the allegations were reported Friday, was much more tempered in tone, saying that the claim actually "confirms what the Governor has said all along."

The full email is below.

Christie's Office: Letter 'Confirms What The Governor Has Said All Along'

In a statement released Friday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's administration responded to a letter from a lawyer representing a former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey executive, which claimed that Christie knew about the George Washington Bridge lane closures while they were happening.

Here's the full statement:

“Mr. Wildstein's lawyer confirms what the Governor has said all along - he had absolutely no prior knowledge of the lane closures before they happened and whatever Mr. Wildstein's motivations were for closing them to begin with. As the Governor said in a December 13th press conference, he only first learned lanes were closed when it was reported by the press and as he said in his January 9th press conference, had no indication that this was anything other than a traffic study until he read otherwise the morning of January 8th. The Governor denies Mr. Wildstein's lawyer's other assertions.”

He's trying to discredit Wildstein because he knows Wildstein might very well have something solid to offer to investigators.

Christie is sweating profusely now, trying to remember what was send, told, shown to Wildstein. It is positively delicious to see the desperation increasing exponentially.

"LOL, his email smacks of desperation, imo....He's trying to discredit Wildstein because he knows Wildstein might very well have something solid to offer to investigators. "

...WTF is this:

As a 16-year-old kid, he sued over a local school board election.
He was publicly accused by his high school social studies teacher of deceptive behavior.
He had a controversial tenure as Mayor of Livingston
He was an anonymous blogger known as Wally Edge
He had a strange habit of registering web addresses for other people's names without telling them

Crisp Christie is a losing it.

"I was the class president and athlete. I don't know what David was doing during that period of time."

It seems he did know what Wildstein was doing and keeping a naughty list, lol. Now he knows Wildstein has his own list and it's current not ancient history.

He really is losing it and it is hilarious!

And did the gov ever say the accusations were wrong? Nope. Nowhere in that letter did he say the accusations were wrong. He even repeated his lie.

What an asswipe. Attacking someone's high school record. How low can this GOPer go?

from the letter:

As a 16-year-old kid, he sued over a local school board election (Wildstein).

Worse Than I Realized

Josh Marshall

<...>

One person said we should see the release of this email as a message to funders. If so, the message seems to be "I'm desperate and losing my mind."

This email/memo/press release doesn't read like a methodological takedown. It reads more like something dashed off in a climate of frenzied but impotent rage.

Look at this passage.

It's genuinely shocking that a sitting governor and presidential aspirant finds himself or his key defenders writing a sentence like this: "He was publicly accused by his high school social studies teacher of deceptive behavior."

I mean, is that a joke? Or, he's someone who "made moves that were not productive"?

Seriously, who wrote this?
