Have you ever had a conservative roommate that drove you crazy?

I had one up until a couple months ago. I didn't mention politics around him, but he would always find a way to interject how liberals are ruining everything into every conversation. He was also absurdly pro-gun, as in he believed that the kids at Sandy Hook should've had AR-15s themselves. Not an exaggeration, he actually said that. He was the kind of guy who, if Obama cured cancer, would be pro-cancer. And to top it all off, he said he supported everything the guys on Duck Dynasty said, his logic being that because they're conservative and "Christian", they're automatically right.

Any right-wing roommate horror stories you've got?

Yes, but this was in college many years ago (the late '60s). The Velveteen Ocelot Feb 2014 #1

I was attending a private liberal arts college in Minnesota. The roommate that was assigned to me for my sophomore year was from Texas, and she was very, very, very religious, belonging to some Bible-thumper church (maybe Southern Baptist, but I don't exactly remember). I, on the other hand, was something of a party animal, and always got the evil eye when I returned to the dorm after having imbibed or otherwise partaken. She pestered me constantly about going to Youth for Christ meetings and accepting Jesus as my personal savior. She drove me nuts. I got a different roommate as soon as the college allowed it. I don't know how she wound up there in the first place, since the school itself was quite liberal and was pretty much a hotbed for hippies, international students, reefer smokers, and Vietnam war and other protestors. During my senior year I ended up with a roommate who kept trying to fix me up with her loser boyfriend's loser buddies, but that's a whole 'nother story.

Well, sort of. A kid I knew in middle school added me, and I discovered that he had had a born-again experience at boot camp and was now a hardcore evangelical. He also added me to a group called "Kent Hovind is my hero". That's all it took for me to de-friend him. I also de-friended someone else because he basically turned my news feed into a Fox News ticker.

Brother, sister, uncle etc. I cannot talk to any of them for more than 15 minutes without one needling me in someway by making some BS political comment. Once asked my mom how long she kept her grand kids in their booster seats and it turned into a huge rant about how car seats are just big government forcing people to buy things and controlling people. Recently put a picture of my kids selling lemonade and fresh fruit at a homemade stand and my father immediately starts in with political commentary. No matter how much I try to avoid politics around them they cannot help but use every conversation as a hammer to try and beat me with their beliefs. No matter how many times I ask them to please not bring up religion or politics they just can't and won't stop. Consequently I happily live 3200 miles away and avoid them as much as possible. They of course think I'm being mean for staying away and that I've been brainwashed by not thinking and believing as they do. It's tiring. Be happy that your not related to a personality like your roommate!

He is turning my sister & her boyfriend into them as well simply bc they aren't smart enough to think for themselves.

Thankfully my mother & her wife are sane.

She was living in one of those student apartments that are basically off-campus dorms (rented by the bedroom, 3 or 4 rooms with en suite bath, living spaces and kitchen shared). Her three roomates were a group of friends which had included her room's previous occupant. All of them were libertarian nuts.

The bookcase in the living room had three of every major Ayn Rand novel, and all sorts of other RW texts. They even carved a pumpkin of Ron Paul for Halloween (the captured him pretty well, I will admit). My friend is big into animal rights, so she moved out after fighting with them for a year.

but he didn't try to argue politics and he paid the rent so it was tolerable for the few years.
