Reince Priebus announced that the Republican National Committee is banning all staff from appearing on MSNBC due to a tweet which they found offensive, so lets look at the RNCs somewhat recent history. In 2008, a candidate for the Republican National Committee chairmanship said the CD he sent committee members for Christmas which included a song titled Barack the Magic Negro was clearly intended as a joke.
The tweet sent out by MSNBC was relatively innocuous, saying, Maybe the rightwing will hate it, but everyone else will go Awww: the adorable new Cheerios ad with biracial family and a link was left to the ad.
That tweet, which was deleted, then MSNBC apologized for three times, made Priebus ban the network completely from any affiliation with RNC staff members. Wash, Reince and repeat, went all Stompy Feet over that tweet, when upon reflection, Republicans have been far more offensive.
Back to 2008. Tennessee Republican Chip Saltsman, a GOP strategist, told CNN, I think most people recognize political satire when they see it. I think RNC members understand that.
son
Rush Limbaugh made that song famous, playing it on his right wing radio show, and I do not recall any Conservatives finding it offensive in 2007. I sure did.
..................................................song lyrics........
The CD was sent to RNC members and was titled We Hate the USA and included songs referencing former presidential candidate John Edwards and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, among other targets.
Other song titles were: John Edwards Poverty Tour, Wright place, wrong pastor, Love Client #9, Ivory and Ebony and The Star Spanglish Banner.
The Hill reported, Republicans are standing up behind Saltsman. Repeating that its only a joke.
Do tell us again about your hurt feelings, Reince Priebus.
Please proceed, RNC
