My adoptive father was Native American. His life was affected and so was mine, so I'm sensitive to this issue.
The featured video - from the National Congress of American Indians - is beautiful - hopeful and real.

Super Bowl Sunday isnt just the occasion National Footbal Leagues championship: its the advertising industrys biggest holiday, too, as firms go all-out to create spots that will break out when they air before the largest remaining national television audience. A great ad can define a brand for years to come. And creating a terrific commercial can also help put an advertising firm on the map.
The attention to ads that air during the game has prompted other brands and organization who cant afford the staggeringly high ad fees those slots command to piggyback on the holiday. Often, these ads reflect the fact that the organizations make them have limited budgets. But this one, from the National Congress of American Indians, is something else entirely:

(312 posts)There are many other important things that need done for the Native Americans. My Mother was half NA, my Father Quarter. I have never lived in the squaller of a reservation and am light skinned so I'm not recognized as NA. It does allow me to hear things that are only intended for the White Guy to hear.

(11,258 posts)I am surprised they would approve this. I know the NFL has some say over ads, but I am not sure of the exact guidelines.

(34,423 posts)I absolutely freaking LOVE THIS! Chi miigwetch to the ones responsible for this seriously kick ass ad. I've always been mortified that the name of the professional football team representing our nation's capitol is called our N word.
A very proud & happy Ojibwe (or as he called us in the ad--Chippewa)

(15,741 posts)I was trying to figure out what the overall message was going to be; I didn't go there at all. That's quite a message to play during football's biggest game. It gave me chills.

(1,446 posts)Way down here in 'Duck Dynasty' land(Monroe/West Monroe, LA), the local university, ULM(University of Louisiana at Monroe) - formerly Northeast Louisiana University - was known as the 'Indians', mascot-wise. Believe it or not, here in repub heaven, they voted to change the mascot to the' Warhawks' - a reference to the type of aircraft flown by the pilots under the command of Monroe native, Lieutenant General Claire Lee Chennault, during World War II.
Now, if a bunch of Southern Baptist, super-patriot, flag-waving yee-haws can get in line with current respect for the people we stole this land from, I think the good people of Washington, DC can be counted on to 'do the right thing'. (yeah, I know it's not 'the people of Washington, DC's choice, one way or the other, but, you know what I mean.)
