Grimm: "Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I'll throw you off this fucking balcony."
Scotto: "Why? I just wanted to ask you..."
Grimm: "If you ever do that to me again..."
Scotto: "Why? Why? Its a valid question."
Grimm: "No, no, you're not man enough, you're not man enough. I'll break you in half. Like a boy."

(4,185 posts)Sherman is a much bigger star than what's his name from I don't know where.
Sherman said it in the first bite ending a rather raucous NFC championship game. 30 million people watched that game.
This thug said it NY1. So outside of msnbc and a handful of others, no one is going to pick it up and really run with it. Espn for sure.
With Sherman it crossed into political news from sports.
Franky, the congressman should resign.

(11,264 posts)I thought Sherman was behaving thuggishly too. I like what Sherman said later where he indicated it was completely immature and that he is usually a much more reflective almost nerdy kind if guy (totally paraphrasing there). I now give Sherman the full benefit if the doubt. Grimm is a thug though.

What pisses people off is NOT necessarily what he said about Crabtree (which I didn't like), what pisses people off is this is an athlete that is off the reservation. It's obvious Richard is very intelligent and isn't afraid to say what's on his mind. I think this is just getting good.

(6,929 posts)With an exaggerated perception of his importance. Yes, I know he makes crap loads of money for playing a game that could ruin his health.
The other is a Republican ASS who thinks that he is important than he is. He will not be charged unless the reporter and his employer choose to do so. I wish they would. Too many people (public and private) believe that this is acceptable behavior. It has become acceptable and encouraged by violence happy Republicans. I am just grateful he was not armed. I guess they do check that sort of thing in the Capitol.

Jefferson23
(30,099 posts)point there is an expectation that all will go as planned...yet, again..security
is suppose to be on alert, regardless. Perhaps we'll learn more about it soon..as
you say, it is on tape..but we don't have a broad view of where they were standing.
Who else was near by, etc.
I don't ever recall a moment like this one, the reporter appeared genuinely taken back, he
is pulling back away from Grimm, he, Grimm, so in his face and then the verbal threats ensue.

(5,727 posts)He was miked up during the game and when Seattle intercepted and it was clear they were going to win, he went over to shake Crabtree's hand and said (twice) "Hell of a game!". Crabtree then pushed him away at the face mask. This got Sherman's dander up so he made the choking sign towards Kaepernick and the rant about Crabtree. I'd be pissed too if I'd offered sportsmanship and got it thrown back in my face and for people to automatically start calling him a thug and make tweets such as "Richard Sherman deserves to get shot in the (expletive) head. Disrespectful (N-word)," said one, expressing a common refrain." shows who the real thugs are.

(13,776 posts)At the time, however, I had never heard of him or knew anything about how intelligent or accomplished he is, nor did I know that Michael Crabtree had just been rude and unsportsmanlike to him. So my response to his outburst, yelling into the camera on live, TV was "Why is he yelling at me?" The reporter was taken aback, too. IMO, regardless of the undeniable realities of racism, he really didn't do himself any favors with people who knew nothing about him. I think in the time since then he's really shown himself to be a bright and insightful and pretty funny guy.
I don't think it's an either-or thing with him and Grimm--I think pretty much everybody who sees the clip would call Grimm a thug. Even more so, since he's in the reporter's actual face with his threats.

The 2 most recent times I can recall have referred to anyone as a thug have been when discussing the always abrasive one term IL congressman Joe Walsh (Go, Tammy Duckworth), and the crass Carl Paladino, failed NY gubernatorial Ru"thug"lican candidate who gave his concession speech armed with a baseball bat.

As for why one is bigger, more people watched the football game than watched the State of the Union address, much less the specific channel that this occurred on. Should Grimm's threat be a big deal? Yes, and personally I think he should get a court date for menacing or something similar and get drummed out of office since he obviously isn't mentally stable enough to serve.

But what Grimm did was ASSAULT. He got up in the face of the reporter and threatened to toss him off the balcony.
Right. And he said, "Don't you ever open your mouth about me, or I'll shut it for you real quick!
That's a physical threat. Please don't try to tell me that it isn't.
