Otis: 3, Me: 0

My 8.5 month-old kitten that a co-worker rescued from the woods & gave to me a few months ago, Otis, completely trashed my kitchen for the third time last night. He keeps finding the bag of kibble. He's gotten it off the top of the refrigerator and from 2 upper cupboards. He gets into it when I'm at work or sleeping then proceeds to strew it all over the kitchen floor & dining room carpet. Half a bag of loose kibble ended up in the sink--at least it was on the side that houses the garbage disposal. He was looking right at me when I put the bag away each time. I will NEVER do that again. He's scary smart. I'm going to start putting the kibble in milk jugs, although he'll probably just grow opposable thumbs & unscrew the top, or learn how to unscrew the top with his teeth, LOL.

It's been so cold in Michigan that my 4 cats have been cuddling with me nonstop since Saturday. It's freaking awesome.

Does anyone else live with a creature of another species that's way too smart?

She has complete run of my apartment and meows to let me know when to turn on the faucet since she prefers tap water over what is in a bowl.

The one thing that I learned to put away when I'm not looking is the toilet paper. She can destroy a roll in about 10 minutes.

Sammy is a TP fiend. She doesn't like to mess with it as much when the roll is just sitting there, although she absolutely adores knocking the paper towels off the counter then hugging the roll all the while kicking the stuffing out of it with her back feet, shredding paper everywhere.

We are their slaves. If aliens were to observe us with our "pets", they'd certainly think the arrangement was the other way around which, in fact, it is!

Although she isn't interested in dry tp. My little girl 'Creole' jumps on the toilet seat after I flush and tries to grab the wet toilet paper as it's spiraling down! What a mess if she manages to catch it! I have learned to leave the lid down.

He's mostly Labrador, with a couple unknowns thrown in.

And he's only 2 years old, so he's still a puppy.

I prefer my kitties.

The former will sit at the very top of the stairs early in the morning just after I wake up. I swear she's just trying to send me tumbling down.

The other two have to be plotting together to get rid of the dog. Stealing her bed, getting into her food...

He may not play with it at all .

My evil genius, though declawed when I adopted him, opens closed drawers that contain cat treats in foil bags, then chews the bags until he can get treats out. He is well fed so this is simply a hobby.

I foster for a rescue group. When a prospective adopter comes to meet a foster, my Evil Genius runs across the mantel or tries to dig into any bag the visitor happened to bring, just to ensure that he, and not the foster, is the center of attention.

I always left food out for mine, they never had to break into anything while I was out.

The hardest thing is when they want to be on top of my keyboard in my lap when I'm on DU, etc.

Taz, my 20 year old tuxedo cat, will only eat canned food yet his teeth are perfect. I guess he figures that as Old Man of the House only canned will do. However, Otis shares his ill-gotten gain with his big sister Sammy (1.5 years) & Cranky Nigel (a venerable 18).
