Allman Brothers Band Calling it Quits

According to an interview with Relix Magazine, Gregg Allman says that The Allman Brothers Band will stop touring at the end of 2014. When asked about the band’s future, Allman says, “This is it — this is the end of it.” He goes on to say, “45 years is enough and I want to do something else, anyway. Everyone has their own real good perspective bands.”

However, Allman leaves the door open to possible reunions down the road. “Whose to say? We may get together every five years and just do one play at a time,”

As previously reported, Allman Brothers Band guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks will leave the veteran group at the end of 2014. Allman will continue to tour with his recharged Gregg Allman & Friends project. The singer/organist recently expanded his solo project to include a full horn section and longtime Allman Brothers Band percussionist Marc Quiñones. Keyboardist Ben Stivers and bassist Ron Johnson (Warren Haynes Band, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe) also recently jointed the outfit.

clapton visited tom dowd studio while duane and the band were jamming. clapton was was amazed at what the guys were doing. at that time in england no one was doing what the allman brothers were doing. here`s a you tube from that session.

here`s the tv "special" about tom dowd that is really worth watching.he really was the wizard behind the curtain.

Nobody except a kindred spirit can be with me in the car when that baby is on because the volume is headed in one very maxed out direction...

I'll miss them, but I understand. And I expect more great stuff from all of them in their future pursuits. And I especially wish Gregory peace, love, happiness and good health.

and took my kids to see them 1 and 1/2 years ago. I saw them the closing weekend at the Fillmore East and at Stonybrook the show before Duane died. You can get that cd at "Hittin the note" We are going to try to see them on this farewell tour. They are legendary in college.

Duane and Gregg, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, and Jaimoe Johanson were the Allman Brothers. They were able to survive the loss of Duane and Berry with the addition of Chuck Leavell and Lamar Williams, but when that group dissolved in 1982 it was the end of the Allmans. (At least in my opinion.)
