Port Authority Chairman David Samson voted for a $256 million reconstruction of the rundown PATH station in Harrison three months after a builder represented by his law firm proposed converting a nearby warehouse into hundreds of luxury apartments, according to records and interviews.
The political donation, the development deal and Samsons vote are completely unrelated, Berkenkamp said in an interview. He said he had not met Samson and worked with other lawyers in the 120-member firm.
Its all completely innocent, he said.

(37,160 posts)...a 25,000 capacity stadium home to NY's pro soccer team (and sponsored by I think you can guess what company).
The stop needed improvements to handle (and encourage) stadium attendance, and other developments. Also, Harrison is just across the Passaic River from Newark, so developments there tie into development projects in Newark's downtown, and that PATH line is the one whose NYC end is the World Trade Center.
None of which means Samson wasn't doing his friend a favor by voting for the the reconstruction, just pointing out that there may have been other screws turning at the same time. Or simple insider trading (if you know a development project is going to pass, it's a good time to buy and develop properties that will magically increase in value...).
