Chicago 14-year-old shoots himself with gun dad gave him for Christmas

A Chicago father has been charged after his son accidentally shot himself with a gun that he was given as a Christmas present.

According to Park Ridge Police Cmdr. Jason Leavitt, the 14-year-old boy shot himself in the leg on Jan. 6. However, police did not reveal the shooting to the media until 17 days later.

The gunshot wound was not life-threatening.

The boy’s father, 52-year-old Joseph Streff, was charged with reckless conduct four days after the shooting. Records indicated that Streff and his son lived at different addresses.

Daddy would have been better off giving his kid a pit bull puppy instead. They're way more safer than guns in the hands of a 14 YO.

There have been so many who died as a result of parents being careless in giving them guns.

I am glad the Dad has to face some consequences for this.

I don't often see that in cases like this. Needs to happen much more IMHO.

6. NRA Prez Keane did too when his kid was young. When kid got older, he shot a motorist in a road rage

incident and spent a number of years in jail. Indoctrinating kids into gun culture isn't wise nowadays, IMO.

I have been shooting for decades. So far not a single person I shoot with or their kids have ever committed a crime with a gun.

so I don't know exactly what they thought or said.

People I personally know are not killing others and that is good enough for me.

It will be a crime When we get rid of the 2nd amendment it will be a crime to shoot a gun or even own one. Big time felony. We need to free everyone in jail that is there for a drug related crime and put the gun owners in instead

Oh god, tell me you're not serious??????

If not, then

That's a rather crude strawman parody picture of the views of most gun regulation advocates. You'll need to be a little less obvious if you want to run under the radar any length of time.

I oppose registration and an AWB. In this particular case it should be against the law for anyone under 18 to have unsupervised access to a gun.
