Flashback: Elizabeth Warren's smack down of Chris Christie

We built it together

by Elizabeth Warren

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie gave a speech last night at the Republican National Convention about the Greatest Generation.

Let's talk about what really made the Greatest Generation so great.

Coming out of the Great Depression, America was at a crossroads. The future of our economy - and our democracy - was at stake.

We made a decision together as a country: To invest in ourselves, in our kids, and in our future. For nearly half a century, that's just what we did.

And it worked. For nearly 50 years, as our country got richer, our families got richer - and as our families got richer, our country got richer.

And then about 30 years ago, our country moved in a different direction. New leadership attacked wages. They attacked pensions. They attacked health care. They attacked unions. And now we find ourselves in a very different world from the one our parents and grandparents built. We are now in a world in which the rich skim more off the top in taxes and special deals, and they leave less and less for our schools, for roads and bridges, for medical and scientific research - less to build a future.

Last night, Chris Christie and the Republicans told the American people that we're to blame for our broken economy. He told families to tighten their belts. He told seniors to live on less. He told teachers to stop fighting for fair pay.

He never, ever mentioned how much more the richest have taken, and he had no mention that those who broke our economy still haven't been held accountable.

The Republicans believe in an America that is rigged for the big guys - giant corporations that can hire an army of lobbyists, ship jobs overseas, and take their profits to the Cayman Islands.

That's not who we are as a people - and that's not the kind of country we want to be.

We built America together, and that's what makes America great.

as the generation of Americans who fought in WW II pass from our ranks their ethics regarding what it truly means to be an American is passing with them. Their experiences, desperately fighting to preserve democracy, serving alongside fellow Americans of every ilk, status, political bent and origin, seeing the country pull together to survive, was the foundation of their views of the world. Their sense of country is being replaced by the junk sensibilities of every man and woman for themselves and the pursuit of greed and acquisition above all else as the dominant principal of American society.

She can have a much longer career with more influence by staying in the Senate and not becoming the President or VP.

Body. She's easily the one they could possibly hate more than a smart black president...a smart woman president...who doesn't like Wall Street so much. I think she can immensely influence Hillary at least in the financial world. I'm not Hillary's biggest fan, but she is where she as and with Elizabeth, in tandem, could do some real power dealing to help us out of this morass we find ourselves in.

I also think this will empower a surge in women influencing state houses and governors and down. Patty Murray is also doing a bang up job. It's time for real "bi-gendership"

He pushed for many years. Humphrey influenced for many years. Hillary would have made more marks with a long life there. You might not think she has had much influence but Warren has made some marks so far. Now looking at Ron Paul, not so much in his time in Congress.

Fox is dedicated to lying to the American people. Even NPR and PBS have a right wing slant. It is little wonder people can't see it. Propaganda is highly effective.

Rich people are never at fault, I am sick and tired of how wonderful they think they are. They are in euphoria, dizzy with their money and their power. We are the little people and they believe they are mighty, however the mighty fall.

Let's kick some Euphoric Ass in 2014!

Absconded in the Senate, she will be politely isolated, a marginally effective gadfly who mighy have some regional influence. As president, she could lead Democrats to retake the Party, since we have become too fractious with ourselves, and are unable to effect that change at the local level.

She is the ONLY Democratic on the national scene with the views and with the juice to effect serious change in the face of an increasingly aggressive corporate state.

People on both sides of the ideological aisle are sick to death of preening, lying politicians who utilize weasel words to not answer the question. Senator Warren is just so opposite of all that and would have an enormous appeal to people from all over the country. If she decided to run for the Presidency, I swear the woman would win.

Yes, just plain spoken even though I believe she is as smart as anyone in that sorry state called Congress. Bernie Sanders is the only other one there right now who could match her.

I will not vote for Hillary if she becomes the nominee.
