(7,867 posts)...what exactly am I looking at here? I can't seem to fixate on what exactly it is. I guess I can see clouds on the left, but I'm not sure what the right-side of the picture is. I guess it's supposed to be a city, but I'm not seeing it that way, lol.

(50,566 posts)That's land, the ocean ... and a big-ass blanket of snow rolling in.

(65,357 posts)If so, it is weirdly positioned relative to the clouds.

(26,549 posts)The land is jutting out into a body of water, with water "above" and "below" the land in the picture.

(34,386 posts)starts to freeze over. Which I wish it would hurry up & do so the Lake Effect Snow Machine will turn off! I am sick & tired of it, and now there's a Winter Storm Watch out for Friday night/Saturday because winds are going to blow the snow around, creating near-blizzard conditions.
Oh, goody.

(35,670 posts)What is that? The big white thing going horizontally across the pic.
There is a shadow underneath it under the storm on the left.

(10,056 posts)with the cloud wall moving from left to right.
The dark areas in the middle and right of the photo is an island.
The lighter area in the lower 25% is water, probably an inlet partially shrouded by the cloud wall while the rest is reflecting the sunlight.
The open ocean is beyond the island.
At least that is my impression.
