http://www.jeffmerkley.com/petition/minimum-wage-act/Thats wrong.
We have an opportunity to change that with the Fair Minimum Wage Act. The bill would increase the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, up from $7.25 today, and provide a raise for tipped workers (whove been stuck at $2.13 an hour since 1991.)
Just as important, the bill would tie the minimum wage to the rate of inflation so working families earning minimum wage never lose a penny in buying power down the road.
Fair pay means better outcomes. It means more productive workers, a stronger economy and better opportunities for working families.
Its also the right thing to do.
So join us lets call on Congress to pass the Fair Minimum Wage Act this year.
To the U.S. Congress:
Its time to pass a raise in the federal minimum wage to $10.10 per hour and lift millions of hardworking families out of poverty.
I want to live in a country where a full time job means you dont live in poverty. Please pass the Fair Minimum Wage Act without delay.

(6,228 posts)Should have been indexed to inflation decades ago. Won't happen thought because both parties like their issues to come to the spotlight periodically.

(5,376 posts)I signed the petition, probably not the first time, since I'm on his e-mail list. But I thank you for spreading the word by posting here.
Let's work hard to keep Jeff in office. The nation needs him!

(5,376 posts)Inspires me to work even harder for Jeff--that and the fact that Jason Conger, former state rep (R of course) over here East of the Cascades (aka RedNeckLand) has announced he's running for Jeff's seat. Bad enough that I live in Greg Walden territory--"Senator" Conger would be a real nightmare for Oregon and the nation. Counting on those West of the Cascades to help make sure that doesn't happen.
Let's keep the faith! Oh, and I'm thankful we have vote by mail. So far I haven't heard of any serious attempt to disenfranchise Oregon voters, but gotta be on guard!
Cheers
