After 7,500 gallons of unstudied chemical 4-methylcyclohexane methanol shut down water around Charleston, West Virginia for a week or more, locals are understandably scared.
At least 317 people sought hospital treatment for symptoms, which may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, rashes, and reddened skin, and 14 were admitted.
One person turned away was mother Kim Elliot, who rushed her seven-month-old baby to the ER last Thursday night after having bathed him in possibly tainted tap water.
Elliott said, "The doctor totally ignored the reason I brought my son in there. No one would help me and the one nurse that did show compassion wanted nothing to do with me after getting pulled aside by her supervisor. It's terrifying."

(19,964 posts)How do you know how this woman voted? As far as we know, she could be a card-carrying union member and a Democrat. Either way, should anyone smugly assume that her child is getting what it deserves?
I will repeat, West Virginia has a democratic Governor and two democratic Senators, not that it's done a fat lot of good. Just having a (D) beside your name doesn't guarantee squat.
And in case anyone has the mistaken notion that our dear leader has righteously turned away any mining industry monies for his own campaign coffers, I will dig up an old post from my DU journal:

No one's hands are clean on this. No one's. All our hands are covered in coal dust. The only time the subject of Appalachia even comes up on the political radar is during the election cycle, then its people and problems are quickly forgotten until the next election cycle -- unless some tragedy such as this one comes along and provides the audience with the opportunity to mock and point fingers. You wonder why these folks are so politically cynical? I don't.

(19,964 posts)If you can call them that. You should see our republicans. I suspect Shelley Moore Capito will be taking over Rockefeller's seat when he retires. She makes Marsha Blackburn look like a piker. More like Palin with half a brain and a lot more money.
