Christie knew. Was it:

1)Christie knew this was being planned (and he was in on the planning) or,

2)While it was happening, Christie knew his office was behind it, or

3)Christie knew months ago, after the event, that his office was behind it

What exactly did he know and when did he know it?

Special election to replace Frank Lautenberg because there could have been a larger Democrat turnout if he had the replacement election the same time as the general election. It was about him getting the biggest percent of the votes. Perhaps his staff was trying to increase the percentage.

Yeah, the same Kean whose son Christie later screwed out of a job after Kean Sr. made an offhand remark about how some NJ state response times could have been better on some storm or something a few years back. Kean Sr. has not been exactly in Christie's corner on Bridgegate.

so as to give him plausible deniability, the TV and radio and newspapers and legislature and just about everybody else in NJ including his own family and half of NY and PA were not in on the secret.

No way around it: he knew at the very least that there was some big traffic snarl in Fort Lee that lasted days.

Fond of lane closures.

I have been puzzled at the way everyone is acting like there is actually a division or wall between the Governor and his staff. It is the Governor's office - Period.

The GOVERNOR'S OFFICE (the staff and the Governor) is one unit. Repeat - It is one indivisible unit.

The Governor is personally and legally responsible for everything that happens in the office, the communications with others, and every action taken by anyone from the Governor's office.

I have never before seen a scandal evolve from a Governor's office when anyone in the media tried to separate the aides from the Governor and split the responsibility. It is a bizarre notion. Apparently the media has gone completely stupid this time around; I guess because he is their Rethug.
