@RonanFarrow:
Missed the Woody Allen tribute - did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after Annie Hall?
That's gonna leave a mark.

Still fucked up and creepy, though.

(3,724 posts)kept his own apartment in NYC, so they didn't co-habitate, either.
I don't think that changes anything, however - he was as close to a father as most of Mia's kids had, and he had an affair with Soon Yi when she was 16. So yeah, really pretty creepy.

(63,216 posts)Wiki says Soon-Yi was "around 19" when the relationship started in 1991, so we can make of that what we will.
Weirdly, he's been with Soon-Yi longer than all of his other marriages/partnerships combined.
Now if you excuse me I'm going to go bleach my brain.

(45,319 posts)and Andre Previn, husband to Mia. Woody and Mia were not married, Soon Yi was not 16, she had a legal adopted father, Andre Previn, whom Mia had married at age 23 when Andre was twice her age and married to Dory Previn, who would tell you not to trust Mia ever.
So Mia married Andre after Andre divorced Dory and Mia was 23. The two of them adopted Soon Yi. Who later got together with Mia's former and estranged boyfriend, when Soon Yi was 19. Mia says she never broke it off with Sinatra during any of her other relationships or marriages. Ronan, she says, could be either Woody's or Frank's son. She is not sure.
Quite a tale.

(63,216 posts)Look, I'm not defending his actions, because they strike me as repugnant in the extreme.
However, if we're going to discuss his grotesque behavior, we might as well get the facts straight.

(108,980 posts)All Mia's other children felt that he had bonded with them as a father, and that as such it was inexcusable that he had gotten involved with their sister.
Orrex
(63,216 posts)At the end of the day, as long as Soon-Yi is okay with it, then that takes precedence over the other children who "felt that he had bonded with them as a father." If it's not an issue legally, then we can't really do much aside from noting how freaking creepy it is.

(108,980 posts)never acknowledged damage from it doesn't mean she wasn't damaged, or that what he did was morally right.
Orrex
(63,216 posts)That absolutely doesn't refute the possibility of damage--far from it, of course. But I'm reluctant to assume that she's damaged simply on the basis that she's the target of Allen's creepiness.
Then again, longterm proximity to his creepiness might very well be damaging in its own right.
pnwmom
(108,980 posts)so she was probably especially susceptible to moves from a creep. But -- in purely material terms -- her life is much better than she could have ever had if she had remained in Korea, where she was taken from a neglectful mother.

(63,216 posts)What a fucked up situation from start to finish.
On the plus side, she'll likely get a big sum of cash when Allen shuffles off his mortal coil.
