From gourmet cuisine to down home cooking (“hot sauce; got to be hot")

CLINTON, Md. (AP) -- From gourmet cuisine to down home cooking. President Barack Obama is all over the culinary map this week. Yesterday afternoon, the president made a lunchtime detour to a barbecue and ribs joint. Obama and Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland stopped at Texas Ribs and BBQ outside of Washington. The prez ordered two slabs of baby back ribs and a brisket sandwich with fries. And Obama reminded the cashier not to forget the hot sauce. Just the night before, the dining was a lot fancier, as President Obama hosted a state dinner for the British prime minister.

Obama and Cardin sidled up to the takeout counter inside and POTUS inspected a menu as the cashier attempted to hand him a bag of someone else’s food. Couldn’t hear what POTUS ordered but heard him say: “hot sauce; got to be hot. Do you want me to pay up now or pay later?”

“Later,” the cashier said.

“I am going to have to pay so don’t try getting sneaky on me,” said Obama, who then went with Cardin to greet diners while his food was being prepared.

The diners included a military member who said told Obama he had helped to fly him on military aircraft during the 2008 campaign. Obama thanked him . . .

"Thanks for your service," he said to some diners who worked at Andrews Air Base. "I'm standing between you and the last bite." [link:http://www.nbcwashington.com/the-scene/events/Obama-Wants-His-Babyback-Babyback-Babyback-Ribs-142812295.html|(article)

And I dig the funky chartreuse-n-purple color scheme, too.

Oh, but maybe they should have called the French beans "Freedom beans."
