That cost NJ a small fortune in lost gains to the local economy (est. $9 billion), lost construction jobs, and the expense for NJ of fines and legal fees. Also lost was an easing of the commute to/from NY.

i haven't figured out how to link using my new iPad, but I found plenty on this by googling "Christie tunnel project." There is a good NY Times opinion piece from April 12, 2012 on this, and the Wikipedia entry covers the costs very well.

And guess what? The consensus of the articles I looked at is that Christie lied about costs in his rationale for cancelling the project.
