Will John Oliver's EXCELLENT "UNESCO Funding Cut" Piece Go Viral...I doubt it....

See it here:

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/epic-daily-show-segment-blasts-u-s-for-cutting-off-unesco-funding/

So why won't it go viral?

1.) Comedy Central is very picky about what it allows on YouTube

2.) It supports Palestine’s UN rights

3.) The Internet of 2012 is NOT the Internet of 2001-2004ish. The PTB have become VERY sophisticated about what is and what isn't allowed to "go viral". Oh, you can say anything and maybe 2% to 10% tops get it, but viral? Never.

Oh and Mr. Wexler? No greater love.

On Edit: I'll proof read my headlines one of these days

I am thankful that Jon took it on.

Wexler was an embarrassment, and perfectly illustrated the "Israel first" issue many of our liberal Democratic Jewish Congresspersons we have that we are not supposed to talk about without being labeled antisemitic.

Shame on the US, and good on Gabon for stepping up to help fill in the gap.

Will watch again -- but knowing Wexler's record on the issue I believe my first impressions may be correct.

Wexler from a progressive Jewish perspective:

Sadly, I think he believed what he was spewing.

and if Wexler IS saying that the results of a US attack on Iran are "knowable", he's wrong.

But he is a big Two-Stater and it's clear that the current Israeli government gives that position only the most cursory lip-service. Perhaps he is saying, indirectly, that if Israel won't get serious about a two-state solution, he's going to reconsider involving the UN in the process.

What I don't get though is this:

We can still reinstate the UNESCO funding and veto any UN resolution on Palestine, so why don't we just do that?

It was masterful the way he used the kids' tremendous cuteness without being maudlin at all. It wasn't preachy, it was informative and funny and a really good use of the additional time he was given on the show. Props to Jon for making that decision, and mad props to John for doing an awesome job. And mad mad props to those adorable little kids!
