Six Bergen County residents file class-action lawsuits over GWB scandal

Six Bergen County residents file class-action lawsuits over GWB scandal

BY KIBRET MARKOS

Six Bergen County residents filed a class-action lawsuit Thursday against Gov. Christie, his sacked aide and his two former appointees to the Port Authority, claiming they got stuck in traffic, arrived late for work and lost their pay when a politically motivated lane closure at the George Washington Bridge clogged the borough with traffic in September.

Emails and text messages between the governor’s deputy chief of staff, Bridget Kelly, and two top officials at the Port Authority appear to show that the lanes were shut down deliberately to cause traffic problems in Fort Lee to punish the borough’s mayor because he refused to endorse Christie’s re-election bid in November.

Calling the scheme a “conspiracy” and a “willful, wanton, arbitrary, and egregious official misconduct,” the lawsuit filed in federal court in Newark seeks damages on behalf of six residents of Fort Lee, Edgewater and Leonia.

The lane closures, which went into effect on the first day of school in September and lasted for four days, led to massive traffic backups especially in Fort Lee.

Hopefully they will get through the legal hoops to get into court. However, if they lose, this might not be a good tactic.

Things are getting interesting. That's for sure.

For reasons that defy comprehension, Christie’s team decided to seek political retribution against the community of Fort Lee, and decided a crippling traffic jam was the way to do it. But what the governor’s top officials didn’t bother to consider was the real-world effect of their dangerous abuse of power....a delay for an EMS crew arriving at the scene of a vehicle accident where four people were injured, an hour-long delay for an EMS coordinator to reach someone who called 911 complaining of chest pains, and the elderly woman who died.

Making matters slightly worse, Molly Redden noted there was a missing four-year-old child in Fort Lee that morning and though the toddler was eventually found, local police were initially hampered from responding due to the traffic crisis imposed on the community for no reason.

By the reasoning of Christie aides, this may not have mattered since it might have been the child of “a Buono voter.”

Christie's press conference and trip to Fort Lee to apologize are signs of just how potentially damaging this could become.

His supporters need to be honest with themselves and ask, what else is this
man capable of doing?

Lost wages of employees, the lost productivity and lost revenue of businesses due to absent workers and the impeded access of customers, lost city expenditures due to disruption of schools and other city business in Fort Lee, individual cases of physical injury and at least one death possibly arising from the delayed arrival of emergency service providers and impeded access to hospitals. There are a lot of very real damages that NJ will have to pay out for before this is all over... I very much doubt we will have heard the last of this before 2016.

always wanted it for him. When Junior announced for it, the whole family was freaked-out because junior had ALWAYS been a fuck-up.

There is still more theft to be done against the American people, so the bush family mafia will just keep on stealing the white house until every last cent is gone.

Well if Jeb runs then it will be open season on all things Bush, from Poppy's cocaine connections in Central America, to Jeb's suppression of Florida's African-American vote in the stolen 2000 election, to the 9-11 attack, to Dubya's war crimes, to Katrina, to the big bank bail-out and Bush recession of 2008 (and everything else in-between). I'm not so sure his family is going to want all that exposure. They've already made their generational trip to the public well, filled up their coffers with money from war profiteering, and got away free. I suspect they might feel they have more to lose then win with another presidential run.

Watch out Trenton! Mayor Sokolich is looking for reimbursement too. Christy's in 360 degrees of deep shit.
