This is why "I'm not sexist" is an irrelevant response to a thread on sexism, and "I'm not racist" is an irrelevant response to a thread on racism. Being non-sexist and non-racist does not absolve one of the responsibility to do something to rid our society of all forms of discrimination.

Worse yet, the complacency displayed by such statements reveals a dangerous lack of self-questioning. No one in this society -- regardless of gender and race -- is completely free of sexist and racist attitudes.
