7. The thing that bugs me, is how so FEW media-types tell the really revolting part of the story

The dog was SICK.....

had diarrhea so badly that it ran off the top of the car and down the back window..grossing out the kids..

did the family stop for the day?... check into a motel? ...maybe seek out a vet for the dog?

nope..

Mittens HOSED OFF the dog & car, and continued down the road..

There's also a part of the story that never is followed up on. Apparently one of "the boys" told the story to a reporter in the first place (complete with gory details) and supposedly, they also told him that Seamus "ran away" once they got to Canada..

Do we know when the trip actually happened..summer? winter? was heat or cold responsible for the dog's illness? was his "running away" a cover story for possible euthanization because he was so ill? or did he run away? (would anyone blame him?)

where does Mitt say the dog rode on the return trip?

are there family pics of the dog AFTER the trip? or did he never again live with them?

9. diarrhea does not necessarily mean sick

Extreme fear can cause diarrhea, and most likely was the cause in this situation.

I have read an article that says that Seamus "took to wandering" in Canada, so ended up in California living with Mitt's sister.

Basically, the dog figured out that Mittens wasn't a good person for him, smartly ran away, so was given to Mittens' sister, where he hopefully was better cared for.

8. Then entire episode makes me sick. But there is something deeper -

This man shows 1) a complete lack of empathy, 2) a complete disregard for the feelings of his children and others - just "get the job done" - which is reflected in his business policies, and 3) a common-sense-o-meter that is stuck at "zero." I know a number of highly intelligent people who are cursed with one or more of the above. Mittens hit the trifecta.
