Ladies and Gentlemen, remove your hats. A presidential dream has just died.

No matter what the truth is, that Christie was culpable or incompetent or a victim of a a conspiracy of the staff he chose and of whose acts which he had no knowledge, there is no way he can possibly accuse a political opponent of anything without evoking considerable eye rolling and redirecting to this genuine, dyed-in-the-wool fiasco.

Behold, The Walking Dead.

He is actually getting away with this. It plays well with the people who would actually vote for him.
Might, of course, sway a few Dem centrists from voting for him, though.
McCain is right - call a presser, answer all the questions, move on.

Christie's schtick was being a centrist who can attract Democrats. As a result, the teabaggers and religious right hate him. He embraced Obama, told off the teabaggers, and is not religiously insane enough for the religious right.

This scandal takes away the centrists. He doesn't have the teabaggers nor the religious right. He's got nobody left to vote for him.

But I think you're right, his Presidential aspirations are finished. Especially with all the jokes he made about how insignificant the road closing was. And not bothering to return the mayor's calls. All this together paints a very poor picture that I don't think will go away.
