Yep looks like it's true there not giving her name but the story is evolving http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2014/01/gwb_closures_woman_died_delays.html

(31,828 posts)Isn't. If what is being said and written is true by EMS in that area - and they literally couldn't get to her - then what they did was absolutely criminal.

(10,000 posts)Yes, if violent criminals attacked her in her home, it's be treated differently by the media. I concede that point in advance.
That said, most view anyone 90+ as "playing with the house money." Even if the traffic held up an EMT, it's going to be difficult to establish that as causality -- she's 91. It's going to be impossible to establish any sort of criminal intent. I'm not certain one could even make a compelling case for involuntary manslaughter. While civil suits may be possible (even likely), again, you have to wonder what would actually be awarded. It's unlikely a 91 year old is a breadwinner or a caregiver, and it's not like the death of a child where she has "her whole life ahead of her."
Some perspective is needed here. This isn't Iran Contra. This isn't Watergate. No money has changed hands. Some traffic was snarled as part of a petty political payback. We'll see what is said at 11.

(31,828 posts)Please review our state constitution. And state law. You can't impede traffic here. And someone did that. Deliberately and maliciously.
This was not an act of God where the bridge got wiped out. And truthfully? My property taxes are almost 8K a year here - plus I pay State Income Taxes in NJ . . .
I want an answer. I have a right to know what the hell they do are doing. I demand it. I'm paying these peoples' salaries my friend.
ETA: You live in the midwest or NJ? You do realize there is one thing that unites all New Jerseyans? Our hatred of traffic and our commutes.

(10,000 posts)I do realize you hate traffic. In the MD/DC area where I grew up, life revolves around rush hour.
I can appreciate that you want answers, and the Mayor of Fort Lee probably has a few choice words. Nevertheless, I think aides will take the fall for this.

Worst part of NJ - when I moved here - is turning right to go left.
He tripped himself up a few times today. Even the Deminski and Doyle (local right wing radio station) IndieTeaPublucans were pointing it out.
He's done as a Presidentil candidate - and no one here is giving him the benefit of the doubt. Looks like your avatar is going to sail into the WH in January 2017.

The timeframe between January 2014 and November 2016 is an eternity in politics.
I just read a report that a huge number of one-time Republicans have switched to "Fail to state preference/Independent." While I'd love to think that moderates in the party are expressing disgust over having to choose between Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, I think the reality is that Tea Partiers (who are likely rejoicing over Christie's misfortune) are leaving the GOP for not being far enough right. Hence, I have no clue who will show up to vote in their primaries, and who (as a result) they will nominate.

Not over something like this.
Smug bastard got too cocky with his cavalier abuse of power, and it looks like its coming back to bite him. HARD.

(16,847 posts)tit-for-tat. I hope the press is able to get to the bottom of this story. If it's true, Christie's brand might be tarnished forever.

(3,284 posts)Of the thousands if people who were delayed, were there any medical emergencies
that were adversely affected? I had this thought weeks ago.
Now the clear picture is coming out with new lines of investigation.
If there are any deaths possibly attributable,
Christie is done.
