Porn in the USA: Conservatives Are Biggest Consumers
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Business/story?id=6977202&page=1#.T2KOOHJkF7s
Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds. "Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by," Edelman says.
Guess which state tops the list? Utah! "The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users."
Here's the bottom-line fun fact you can pull out as this debate heats up: "Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama."
My theory is that the GOP has trouble accepting and coping with their natural urges and instincts and feel the need to pass laws to prohibit it. It matches with their authoritarian mindset. They can't trust themselves -- or others -- to make the right moral choices in accordance with their beliefs so they feel the need to legislate against it.

(39,961 posts)They like to be sanctimonious about it in public, and then enjoy it in private. And yes, they are the worst. My brother in law got a bunch of videos on my mother's computer over Christmas one year, and I had to clean up her PC. He didn't empty the recycling bin, and what I saw was awful.

He'd still get a major ass-kicking. It would be just what that little sit deserves.
That's just my 2 cents and quite possibly overpriced at that!

(10,237 posts)Winning 7 states in a Presidential election is hardly more consolation than winning 4.
However, it WOULD feel a little better tto say that President Obama won 46 states than 43. That's a very nice paradox.

You got pridemore talking about a child raised by a single parent should be considered abuse and women should think of the good times when their spouse is beating them. I cannot believe this is the 21st century. It reminds me of the book, "the handmade's tale." These people seem very, very creepy.

(17,215 posts)(which they're trying to revive), there were a lot of parodies about Conservative hypocrisy and pornography. A typical such satire would have the head of a censorship board saying something like "That film was so disgusting, we had to watch it five or six times to find all the horrible, perverted things in it."

On Santorum's plus side, though, he's just picked up the votes of about 20 pissed-off 2nd Waver/Andrea Dworkin devotees, the people for whom there is NO MORE PRESSING ISSUE than stopping consenting adults from oppressing other consenting adults by watching them fuck on a video screen.
