A Little Levity Goes a Long Way..

I find that there's lot of very serious discussion going on here at DU, about a lot of very serious topics. It's not hard to get that 'sinking feeling' when you read about debt, bailouts, corrupt leaders, greed, etc. I often have to make myself find something to laugh at to keep from ending up in an all day woolgathering marathon.

I'm new here at DU. One of the other members recently posted me a link to the DU Glossary and some of it was really funny. I thought I would post my five favorite entries below.

Here they are, listed by 'smilie' index:

'Caribou Barbie - Sarah Palin. Coined by a DUer, sfexpat2000, in August 2008.'

'Cat Killer - aka Bill Frist -- "Frist acknowledged in a 1989 book that he routinely killed cats while an ambitious medical student at Harvard Medical School in the 1970s. His office said it had no record on how many cats died. Frist disclosed that he went to animal shelters and pretended to adopt the cats, telling shelter personnel he intended to keep them as pets. Instead he used them to sharpen his surgical skills, killing them in the process." '

'Crashcart - Dick Cheney. A nickname derived from the fact that Cheney travels with a full cardiac emergency team at all times whose equipment includes a "crash cart" - a cabinet containing equipment that physicians and nurses need when a cardiac arrest occurs (the heart stops beating). Whether ol' Dick has a heart at all is still in debate.'

'Caligula - Rumored to be derived from the Latin for "little boots. Another nickname for George Bush.'

'Blivet - Ten pounds of manure in a five pound sack; DU nickname for George Walker Bush'

when discussing Cheney. I used it in conversation once with my wife while she was driving and you could sense the wheels turning in her mind for just a couple of seconds until she put it together... she started laughing so hard we damn near wound up in a tree.

Blivet is another favorite but a bit more obscure.

Thanks for the reminder and belated welcome to DU

But if this GOP Clown Car Tour keeps rolling, I'm going to have to start taking "gravitas breaks!"

The only ones I recognize are Palin (top in red), Romney (saying "flip/flop&quot and I'm assuming the lady with the wrench is Bachman.
