PLAYBOY: Do you have any tips for the offspring of campaigners on the election trail?
MCCAIN: Get sleep, be nice and shut up. I wasnt always a peach to be around. I could have been nicer to the Secret Service and some staffers, and I voiced my opinion way too much. Its really stressful, though. The day before Election Day, I almost overdosed on Xanax. I had gained a lot of weight. I went up four sizes thanks to Starbucks and Snickers. Obamamania was at its height. I ended up going to Sedona with my girlfriends. All we did was play Rock Band for days and days and eat and sleep and hang out in bed watching TV. I was done.
***
PLAYBOY: Say a little more about the hanging-out-in-bed-with-girlfriends part.
MCCAIN: Watch it, mister. My friends from home came over to support me, and we got in my parents big bed. They have this huge California king and we just stayed up eating ice cream. Im not a lesbian, if thats what youre asking. Id be the first person to tell the world I was gay. Im not private about anything. I think you should live how you should live. But Im strictly dickly. I cant help it. I love sex and I love men.

(33,688 posts)someone it would be fun to have a couple of drinks and BS with. And she seems the epitome of sanity compared to most Repubs.

(89,252 posts)she would be a democrat. the Bush daughters are kind of similar.

(59,504 posts)In 2004, she had the choice of a man who smeared her father in a pretty sick way or a man who had been a good friend and kind to her father. If you read McCain's book on his Senate career that covers his time on the POW/MIA hearings, McCain pretty much admits that Kerry kept McCain from completely losing it several times - in addition to doing an excellent job running the committee.
I suspect that Megan McCain did not have strong ideological positions - in which case, that vote may not have been the least bit difficult. She had good reason to dislike Bush and like Kerry.

(4,507 posts)totally progressive and so, so pretty. It's very hard for me to understand how W could have possibly produced something so fantastic.

(1,788 posts)She may be on the "right" side, but not crazy right wing. I like her a lot. I don't agree with most things she says, and she does that silly everything is the same, but I think she is pretty cool....also, since she makes the right winger's head exploded, it makes me dig her even more.

(25,415 posts)She is okay in my book. A socially moderate Republican. There used to be a lot more of them but they got chased out of the party.

(9,796 posts)Granted, we'd disagree on a lot of things but she's socially moderate so we could probably get along ok. Shame the party isn't more like her.

(28,979 posts)Somehow, I think O'Bama's daughters will stay out of Playboy. Chelsea Clinton too. Maybe I am being overly judgmental, but the Rightwing spends most of their time ranting about liberal girls' behavior. I can't help but notice a distinct difference between what Meghan and Bristol are allowed to do without any condemnation by the right.
I personally see nothing wrong about her doing the interview for Playboy; however I also don't think the other first daughters would ever do so. I am not criticizing simply observing. Is there a double standard in place?
JI7
(89,252 posts)at least Meghan has a history of speaking out against the extremists in her party who go after gays, women etc.
McCain isn't really known for being a moralist religious type either. his right wing positions are usually about being pro war.
that's why i consider the whole Bristol thing to be hypocritical but not Meghan.
Generic Other
(28,979 posts)just curious why she gets a pass from the rightwing when a woman like Sandra Fluke gets called names and is humiliated for speaking out. I can't imagine Democratic first daughters being interviewed in Playboy without some serious GOP frothing at the mouth.

(24,544 posts)Since Vivica Fox's character said it to Queen Latifa's character in Set it Off which came out about 20 years ago.
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,414 posts)but weren't some of the main characters in the movie Lesbians? Not that it matters to me but she almost seems to be overly defensive about her sexuality and it's sort of ironic she's quoting a line from that particular movie. Bunch of adult women in a bed? Hmmmmmmm. Could be innocent I suppose.
Number23
(24,544 posts)That was always hitting on Vivica Fox's character who was not a lesbian. Which is why Vivica informs Latifa that she was "strictly dickly."

(24,544 posts)Jada Pinkett and Kimberly Elise were the other actors in the quartet of female bank robbers.
But I have to admit... ANY movie/tv show/ad etc. with Blair Underwood in it is a must see as far as I'm concerned.
Edit: Forgot to add, the soundtrack launched one of the greatest songs in music history out into the stratosphere:

He and his sister were nice and gracious the whole time.

(24,544 posts)I hope you didn't get trampled in the rush to get to Blair. I'm sure you learned to never, EVER get in the way between a sista and Blair Underwood that night!
btw, I'm doing a Soul Scroll in the AA forum http://www.democraticunderground.com/1187856

(26,080 posts)I definitely disagree with her on things, but she is what she is, and she had been very vocal about disliking the Palins, and she also did a NOH8 photo.
She;s young, and I hope she steers more left as she gets older.

(55,476 posts)She was a Republican, but couldn't stand her party. She felt that being a business major, she should be a Republican.
She loved Clinton, and last I checked she was behind Obama 100%. Still registered Repub tho...
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,414 posts)and what can we do to eliminate that "soft" Republican support that they enjoy. What can we do to get them to crossover? We have a group called "Republicans for Obama" but if they can support him, why don't they just become indies or Dems?
Taverner
(55,476 posts)All her co-workers are men, her industry is saturated with men.
Hell, she married a RW Republican who she thinks is a sexist scumbag.
I warned her of this, but did she listen? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
But seriously, she's low hanging fruit for the Democratic Party. I am surprised when the Dems CAN'T get these folks to vote Dem.

(89,252 posts)far longer than he should have and i'm sure it had to do with family, his dad was senator.
only more recently did he switch to indie.
i don't really care as long as they vote the right way.
