for Countrerpunch. He thinks Obama is a diabolical villain and child killer who is even worse than Bush.
I can't escape him on Facebook. Kill me now.

(30,674 posts)I know, I felt so safe as a liberal talking to him then BLAM Obama's a child murderer and here's why...I too am very upset with the way Obama has continued (if not advanced) Bush prinicipals, but I don't think it's something in his personality, I think it's an e inescapable web of momentum we all are caught in due to forces of globalization. So I find myself defending Obama where I would normally be more critical. It's the worse than Bush stuff I can't handle!

(36,418 posts)It's not a left-right continuum with Obama on the Left and Cockburn on his right. No. Cockburn is off that scale Left, which means that he holds views that resembles some anti-statist aspects of libertarianism. Cockburn and most others at CounterPunch are definitely of the anti-war, anti-authoritarian Left.
By the sort of permanent rightward creep in American politics, maybe Obama is about as "liberal" as the Establishment media and corporate America might find acceptable, but by European standards (and those of many of us here at DU), Obama is center-right.
A lot of people on both ends of the spectrum hate the Establishment policies and institutions that Obama is doing (in some ways) a quite competent job of rehabilitating and bailing-out. For a few, it may be a personal animus, but Barack is no more mercenary or amoral than any other good corporate attorney.

I am furious that Obama didn't use his unique opportunity to force real change, but relaxed with Geithner and Summers instead. But every once in awhile he gives me hope. Don't know why I believe it. It is disappointing indeed. But I can't go along with the utter demonization stuff, even tho he may deserve it.

(30,674 posts)actually, I should have put quotes around "crazy RW Uncle" I just meant the character who does that thing at the dinner table. I'm sure he isn't RW, but I feel like defending Obama against him. And I don't even like Obama's policies (at least the DOJ/Defense policies we're discussing. I'm a leftie too! At least I thought I was.
