Churches say Sunday parking meters 'hostile, negative measure against faith communities'

Source: San Francisco Examiner

A proposal to expand parking meter enforcement to Sundays has drawn the ire of local churches and other places of worship.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is exploring options to make up its two-year projected budget deficit of $53.2 million. Enforcing parking meters on Sundays, an initiative that would generate $2.8 million annually, has received support from several members of the agency’s board of directors.

... Amos Brown, a pastor with Third Baptist Church, said the proposal was a “hostile, negative measure against faith communities in The City.”

“San Francisco prides itself on being an inclusive, diverse city,” said Brown. “But this measure is suggesting that people of faith are not welcome here.”

Oh good grief. They want to be treated DIFFERENTLY than everyone else and the fact that they are being treated the same means they are diverse and don't feel "welcomed".

Actually, I think this measure is suggesting that people of faith shouldn't park illegally on Sundays.

But no, let's make this part of the "War on Religion," right pastor?

So long as parking fees are waived on Fridays, Saturdays, and any other day of religious observance.

Why do these Christians get singled out for special privileges?

Idiot needs to learn what "inclusive" means

That being said: if MTA wants to close their budget gap, try cracking down on fare cheats!

For the record they do enforce them on Friday (Muslim day of prayer) and Saturday, (Jewish Sabath).

By their stupid definition nowhere in America welcomes any who are not insert Christian denomination here.

If we don't enforce meters on Sunday (for the xtian churches), then we shouldn't enforce on Saturday (for Jewish temple-goers, at least the ones who might drive), and shouldn't enforce on Friday (for the mosque-attendees).

Ok, sounds good to me!

Her driveway was blocked every Sunday so she couldn't get out to go to HER church. So she decided to park on the street every Saturday night, blocking her own driveway. The church sent her a letter, complaining that their parishioners needed that spot to park so THEY could go to church.

As many cities ticket on Saturdays, if you have a synagogue in a congested city, and of courses services on on Saturdays, then this leaves many worshippers vulnerable to tickets.

Parking enforcement bureaucrats, btw, are some of the scummiest people on Earth.

But that is only the block surrounding the church.

They should try to accommodate the churches a bit during services especially when you can't just leave church to feed a machine.

...then they should not be able to enforce them on Saturdays either, which is the day of worship for Jews and Mormons. It's only fair, right? If this is about "people of faith", that is, rather than "Christians only".
