http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/cctv-at-petrol-stations-will-automatically-stop-758518Cameras at petrol stations will automatically stop uninsured or untaxed vehicles from being filled with fuel, under new government plans.
Downing Street officials hope the hi-tech system will crack down on the 1.4million motorists who drive without insurance.
Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras are already fitted in thousands of petrol station forecourts.
... When a car is flagged as being uninsured or untaxed, the system will prevent the fuel pump being used on that vehicle.

(12,712 posts)just as we experience here, business and government are colluding and their partnership is to our detriment. That line between private and public interests becomes blurry.
Extrapolate on that one, ey? One can imagine all kinds of "consumer" scenarios based on the gas pump crackdown.
Maybe the blatant techno-Facism will be short-lived or become an intermediate stage to an awakening and transformation of the filtered, dreamy mindset inculcated by media and consistent distraction.

Secondly, Britain has some rather strict liability laws. The bartender and bar that sells one drink too many to a customer can end up in hot water if that customer manages to injure himself or another on the way home.
Potentially, the attendant and/or station owner could find themselves in the same position if that uninsured vehicle became involved in an accident soon after filling up.
Provided this system issues only pass/fail results AND does not issue a heads up to nearby cops there aren't too many ways it could be abused. Cops already have the same tech in their patrol cars, and the results their units spit out are a lot more comprehensive than "out of rego". ie. outstanding warrants for the registered vehicle owner.
My single biggest worry is that crappy implementation or feeping creaturism, might open up private information to the wrong people.
