PA GOP Governor Defends Ultrasounds Bill: Tells Concerned Women You Just Have To Close Your Eyes
By Amanda Peterson Beadle on Mar 15, 2012 at 10:32 am
More than 10 state legislatures are considering or have passed bills forcing women to receive an ultrasound before having an abortion. And Pennsylvania lawmakers are considering one of the most far-reaching ultrasound bills in the nation.
Gov. Tom Corbett (R) reaffirmed this week that he supports the anti-abortion measure so long as its not obtrusive because women could simply close their eyes during the procedure:
QUESTION: Making them watch does that go too far in your mind?
CORBETT: Im not making anybody watch, OK. Because you just have to close your eyes. As long as its on the exterior and not the interior.

(13,200 posts)On November 24, 1976, his weather spot came up just after a report of a violent rape of a five year old girl. Tex, thereupon quipped: "With rape so predominant in the news lately, it is well to remember the words of Confucius: 'If rape is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it.'" (The same comment later helped derail Texas gubernatorial candidate Clayton Williams' 1990 election bid and got Indiana University Basketball coach Bob Knight in trouble during an interview with Connie Chung in 1988). Roger Grimsby led the 11 p.m. newscast that night with the official apology from WABC. Five days later Grimsby would introduce Antoine's replacement, Storm Field, with "Lie back, relax and enjoy the weather with Storm Field." Antoine closed out his career with a brief stint as weatherman for WNEW-TV in 1977

Look this is the most degrading thing I have ever seen before. We have men who can never reproduce on their own deciding what is best for women. These guys make me wanna puke. All of them.
Oh and the women who support this, too

(14,881 posts)The rape victims are expected to pay for every cent of their rape.
And yes, there are many bitter, unhappy women who swallowed the "women are property" and subservient crap long ago, who resent the women who threw off their chains. They will do anything to make every women share in their bitterness and unhappiness because it is so much easier than examining their own crimped lives and doing something to fix themselves.

(1,328 posts)If a woman is having an abortion because she just cannot afford another child, wouldn't having to pay for this procedure be one more hardship?
Suppose that is their plan, bring another unwanted child into the world that has more than can be taken care of now.

(5,067 posts)And pray tell, who is going to pay for all these procedures you are defending Mr. Fiscal Responsibility since you have cut funding for health in this state? And who is going to pay for all those unwanted kids getting their immunizations, vaccinations and other needed medical services since you have cut funding for child health coverage? And who the hell is going to feed and educate them since you have cut school lunch programs and cut funding for schools, especially in low income districts? And when they get cancer or leukemia from all the tainted water from all the fracking in this state, are you going to pay for their funerals too?

(23,272 posts)It's only on the "exterior" you see. And you can always close your eyes during the procedure. Makes it all better right?
What part of "keep your fucking hands off my body" don't you understand? Or "these are private medical matters between me and my doctor"?
What a complete ass.

Close your eyes and I'll scope you
Tomorrow I'll grope you
Remember this will always be true
And when you've gone away
There'll be others every day
So enjoy all I'm shovin into you
There's no use in resisting
This instrument I'm twisting
And know that your screams ring true
And when you're gone away
There'll be others every day
So enjoy all I'm shovin into you
All I'm shovin there's no end for you
All I'm shovin it is good that's true
All I'm shovin all I'm shovin ooh
All I'm shovin it is good that's true

(1,735 posts)Just a thought, but to get an ultrasound to work, the patient has to drink copious amounts of water.......... If a woman refuses to drink, will they force water down her throat? Sort of like waterboarding doncha think?

(21,925 posts)and these insane women were as obsessed about sex, pregnancy, and potential abortion as these insane men, what would men in general think about laws that require them to submit to various tests before they are even allowed to have sex and risk a woman getting pregnant? What if the insane women required every man to undergo electroejaculation, in which a rectal probe is introduced through the anus, to electrically induce ejaculation in order to get a sperm sample to see if the man is potent or not and is a risk of bringing about a woman's unwanted pregnancy thereby posing an abortion risk? The men could close their eyes, I guess.

(18,636 posts)For such fiscal conservatives, they sure throw the taxpayers money around on things that have no concrete benefit to the public.
If you polled the voters there if they want a new school, park, or streetlights, they'd probably be up in arms about wasting their "hard earned" money, but expensive tax funded mandatory medical exams? You betcha.

Good God in butter this stuff was settled with two supreme court cases

(6,819 posts)I'm glad there is finally a little bit of national attention to what PA. Governor Corbett has been doing. This is a target-rich environment. You can read much more at the following links.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1074
This includes a $955 million cut to public schools, a 50% cut proposed in state funding to the largest state universities, eliminating food stamps for households with more than $5,000 in assets, and passing the lowest tax/fee on the natural gas industry in the country (after years of delay). The latest slashing of funding to public universities is being accomplished in order to fund a $250 million business tax cut.
Corbett has also made no effort to address a funding crisis that is eliminating half of all mass transit service in the Pittsburgh area, and the crumbling of many major bridges.
And let's also not forget that Corbett as Attorney General was given full responsibility for investigating and prosecuting Jerry Sandusky almost THREE YEARS before Sandusky was charged with any crimes. According to news reports, only one part-time investigator was assigned to the Sandusky case.
