Extremely cold for us. We don't get into the single digits very often. It has been in the teens for days. Also colder than average for us.

We had a bad (man made ) fire two years ago, but, overall, fablous climate.

(6,206 posts)and very similar tonight. It is 66 right now (a little after 8 p.m.) and 48 is the predicted low. No snow or windchill factors.

patch of glare ice coming home from work and rolled his truck - totaled it. But he is alive and I will soon know how bad it is. I had to tell his children what was happening and why he was going to the doctors. He could use prayers and good vibes.
I guess weather does not have to be bad to cause a lot of trouble.
Good news. He did not break anything. The seat belt did a job on his stomach and shoulders and he pulled some muscles so he is on crutches. What a blessing. Thank you all for your concern.

(3,370 posts)We're in the beginning stage of a Nor'easter. It's pretty dang cold. Plenty of snow on the ground and BAD road conditions. My husband is on the way to work and I am praying he is safe.
Tomorrow is supposed to be colder than a witch's tit wearing a steel bra and doing push ups in the snow.
Obviously, this means global warming is a total scam.

(9,273 posts)Scary how quick this thing started. I stopped at the store at 4:20, nothing yet. Snowing heavily 10 min. later and the roads were totally covered by the time I got home at 5. I work for a school and already got the magic robo-call but DH's work never closes so he has to deal with it in the AM.

They are very consistent in accuracy. I've been following them for a few years and they have a very good track record and are typically more accurate and level-headed than local weather outlets and The Weather Channel.

Then in Feb 1996 I was chaperoning a group of 6th graders from the Mounds View school district up at the Laurentian Environmental Learning Center near Tower Mn. It got down to a record -60 degrees on Feb 2nd.
Now days you guys still up there have it easy. 20-30 years ago it could be hell. But it's still plenty chilly.

I recently moved down here from the Northeast, and I gotta say that I am sooooo damn happy to be here right now instead of where I used to live! I threw away my snow shovel and my ice scraper and I haven't looked back for one second. It's so nice I think we might open the bedroom windows tonight.

Frigid weather expected this weekend could produce wind chills from 20 below to 40 below zero
By Nancy Gaarder
Homeless shelters already are geared up, trash collectors will do their best and school officials will monitor forecasts closely.
Bad as the weather is now, it's going to get worse.
Dangerously cold Arctic air will arrive this weekend.
By early Monday morning, the temperature in Omaha could bottom out at 10 degrees below zero or worse. Wind chills of 20 to 40 degrees below zero are possible, said Brian Edwards, meteorologist with AccuWeather, The World-Herald's weather consultant.

(28,151 posts)If we get a lot at once getting around is a bit challenging. But these days where we get a couple/few inches every day aren't too bad. We're rather used to it. It's the bitter, bitter cold temps that are unbearable right now.
We are on course to top the record this year. The mounds of snow at the ends of driveways and streets are getting rather large to see around in order to pull out into traffic. Other than that, not too bad. Good for our ski resorts and such. Lots to do here...skating rinks, ice fishing, snow mobiling and skiing. Personally I like a cozy fire and a nice glass of wine.
So many ways to enjoy winter in northern MI! And it is really beautiful!

(8,646 posts)Near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Supposed to start snowing later, and the temps are supposed to drop drastically tomorrow until we hit -15F in the evening.
That's been the pattern this year. Warm (for us, lol), freezing rain, then drastic drop with tons of snow, cold snap, then warms up (Chinook) and we get freezing rain again. ugh. The roads are the shits. I've never seen so much snow in this area as I have in the last few years. Growing up we were very dry in the winter with tons of Chinooks. Now, our Chinooks are wimpy and it snows or rains every time the temperature shifts a few degrees. There's more snow here than when I lived up north! crazy.

(111,339 posts)Unfortunately, this seasonably warm pattern is also a dry one and we need moisture desperately, especially on the mountains. California is going to be in tough shape again next summer if we don't start getting it.
The wet summer and fall have made for a bumper crop of mice coming in. I've offed 20 of them so far. Those electronic traps are great and more humane than a snap trap that often just gets a leg instead of breaking the critter's neck.

(5,275 posts)Here in Central Ohio we got a few inches of snow today and the thermometer is heading south. We'll get another snowstorm in a couple of days then our temperature is going way south of zero, a projected 13 below one night soon. I hate it so much. I have no idea how people make it in places like Minnesota in winter. I have an indoor tennis match Monday and a clinic Tuesday, I'm hoping the club cancels those events.
This is so reminiscent of the little ice age we had here in the late 70s, I recall it going below zero at night for I believe 12 straight days in the 76/77 winter, then the next winter we had the legendary January blizzard, basically a winter hurricane.
I'd like to wake up to May tomorrow but know we have a long trek to get there.
