Bicyclist 25, killed in Springfield hit-and-run crash
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck that struck and killed a 25 year-old man on Boston Road early New Year's morning.
According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, at around 3:00 A.M., the victim was on his bicycle crossing Boston Road near the corner of Barber Street, when he was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The victim died on impact.
Witnesses told police that the driver of the pickup truck kept going eastbound on Main Street without stopping. Debris from the victim's bicycle were dragged as far east as the Walmart store.
Delaney says that it has been extremely difficult to figure out who the victim is, because he was not carrying any ID at the time of the crash. Delaney says that investigators believe they have identified the victim through his tattoos. The man's name will not be released, however, until they are absolutely sure of his identity, and have had time to contact his family.
