Garry Trudeau has outdone himself. Today's strip is worth a million words.

"The decision to end a life is not funny. There is nothing comic about this tasteless interpretation of legislation we have passed in Texas to ensure that women have all the facts when making a life-ending decision."
Gov. Rick Perry spokeswoman Catherine Frazier, commenting on this week's strips

(10,170 posts)State Mandated Rape is not funny either. Turning Texas intrusively fascist- also, no big grins.
Guess what, none of us are laughing. It is a sad, but amazingly astoundingly true thing that Trudeau is documenting and Perry is partly responsible. How Frazier, as a woman, is even a mouthpiece for this abomination astounds me.
Hint for spokeswoman CF: It's not the Doonesbury comic that is tasteless; it's the excremental legislation to which it refers that is so appalling.

(347 posts)trudeau has always been right on. I wish these so-called conservative white males would back off and return to the caves from whence they came.

There's little you can count on in life except this: somewhere right now Rick Santorum is saying some crazy shit.

(6,145 posts)My paper decided to censor Doonesbury this week.
The Oregonian decided boundaries of good taste were exceeded. Apparently the Oregonian also decided the factual background behind the cartoon was not newsworthy or worthy of editorial criticism.

(10,558 posts)Not sure that I agree fully but I can see their point. I wonder if before having that debate we first might figure out how to liberate American women from the republicans? Imagine trying to convince an Afghani citizen about the merits of removing the oppression its culture imposes upon women when that citizen responds with the observation that Americans oppress their women too.
Before you point out the obvious differences, my fellow DUers, please consider that the noble goal here is equality for all of Earth's citizens, regardless of race, gender, station in life or philosophy about sex or religion.

(1,068 posts)The GOP and rape are synonomous throughout history, and now it is being shown in its true light to many people. I"ve advocated for DECADES that the republican Party is NO LONGER a political entity, but the most criminally accountable organization in the history of the planet. It is even worse than the Taliban, and we wish death upon those soldiers!
I have yet to have anyone explain to me why the GOP should be allowed to even legally exist. Murderers, thieves, and babykillers do NOT deserve ANY first amendment privilege; the GOP is worse than the three combined and MUST be destroyed. Pure and simple.

(51,571 posts)They transfered me to some woman who tried to talk me out of canceling by subsription, but she could not explain why they did not run the current Doonesbury strip today in the comic section (they ran some old Doonsebury strip about two guys having lunch instead). She did say she would relay the reasons for my cancelation to management.
