Ranting away this morning about Voter ID and how they think nothing is wrong with it---and using every right wing talking point out there.
One of their callers tried to set them straight by mentioning that voter fraud is a myth created by the right wing to justify the need for Voter ID---caller even provided stats.
Alex response---a typical winger response---was that he didn't believe the statistics showing the lack of fraud.
His example: Ohio
The caller said---yeah Alex, that was voting machine fraud that came from the powers to be---not a citizen lacking a Voter ID.
Still, Alex wanted none of that and kept yelping that as long as everyone is provided a FREE Identification, then it should be mandatory.
Problem with that Alex---- it aint free.
Why?
Because you need a birth certificate or some other approved government document that proves you are a citizen to get the ID---and there goes the free part.
It cost money and lots of time to obtain. ----travel to get the document, etc.
People without the money and the means to obtain these documents simply give up and that is exactly what the Right Wing wants to accomplish. The disenfranchising of a class of American citizens to keep them from voting.
And BTW: That class tends to vote Democratic in elections.
Alex is not a big picture guy.
One thing about his sidekick Christina--- The other day Alex asked her to name the Beatles--she got Paul...and that was it.
nuff said.

(130,973 posts)Had emergency car matter, so sitting while guys diagnosed car, and they had fx 'The Five' ? on. 2 women, 3 men, one of the men actually sounded rational, may have been a Dem. One of the women was a real idiot, in addition to repeatedly tossing her hair and showing off her legs and stilettos, kept arguing voter ID NO PROBLEM, SHOULD be required. And one of the men kept saying the $20 needed to obtain whatever NO PROBLEM.
Unfortunately none mentioned difficulty for some/many, in the targetted communities, to actually acquire the ID needed in States now coming up with the new, restrictive laws, which differ from 'plain old' rules to show where you live, like a utility bill or somesuch.

(92,219 posts)should explain to that idiot that it isn't about a normal ID, it is about the hoops people have to go through to get this "special" ID, and the costs associated with obtaining that ID, which is exactly what you said, and exactly why the Department of Justice is challenging these voter suppression techniques

(12,287 posts)in the states that passed the laws so there are no close places to get the ID. Or that ID's people already have aren't acceptable (usually school ID's or something that Dems usually have) but like in Texas a CC permit is acceptable (repubs would of course have that), so you can tell there is a target and an agenda.

(96,793 posts)I'm angry at XM for moving him to that time slot. It's either his show or MSNBC, which is Morning Joe.
So I listen to music now on my way to work.

(7,572 posts)I despise this person's show. He is ill informed, throws out these outrageous "shoot from the hip" opinions, is vulgar, misogynistic, and his sidekicks are totally ignorant of even recent history. He is not funny nor informative. His guests and callers are not interesting. And, most egreciously, (please bring back spellcheck) he replaced the sophisticated, entertaining, knowledgeable Bill Press.
Who would we petition to to get him replaced???? XM Sirius??? I've complained to them via e-mail several times, to no avail. Start with his commercial supporters? His show broadcasts in NYCity, and I don't know where else, besides satellite.

(41,692 posts)Christina---one of his sidekicks--- is really the most uninformed knucklehead on radio.
She seems like a nice lady but she is clueless on many things.
When she couldn't name the Beatles ..... I was a bit stunned.
