NOW WE KNOW: Scott Olsen Was INTENTIONALLY Shot

Lawyer: Scott Olsen Was Hit by Beanbag Round
“It looks like one officer intentionally shot him,” Olsen's attorney says

By ZOE CORNELI on March 14, 2012 - 5:02 p.m. PDT

.....................

The question of how Olsen was injured, and by whom, has been the subject of intense speculation and an ongoing police department investigation.

................

Olsen had previously said he believed he had been hit with a tear gas canister.

The difference is significant, because a tear gas canister, you don’t shoot at a person,” said Martel, who called the development “troubling” and said he planned to file a lawsuit against the city and the police department.

It's obvious that elected officials cannot be 'shamed' into demanding civilized behavior from police departments, so they need to be hit where it hurts: the pocketbook, which translates into votes at election time.

And if it is ever determined who threw the gas cannister at the people surrounding Olsen after he was hit, some time in general population at Folsom would be appropriate.

at those who went to help him. That individual has been ID'd, but not by the OPD airc, by a journalist. If it is the same person, he should never have been on the street considering his record, which apparently stated that he has killed before.

It is a disgrace that no charges have yet been filed against him and against those who nearly killed Kayvan Sabhegi, another Iraq War Veteran attacked by the OPD who had his spleen lacerated and was left without medical care for 18 hours.

almost unanimously? As I understand, it makes political protesting, a felony. Has anyone else heard about this law that is completely against our 1st amendment rights? If so, please explain it to me. RT tv was discsiing this law almost exclusively today. Is political protesting now a felony, passed by "our" Congress?

The only way anything will change is if part of the lawsuit mandates that the top dog in the police dept is a Liberal, and that his/her orders are to be followed upon pain of firing + loss of pension & benefits.

I'm quite serious...

Crime runs amok in Oakland WITH a police department. They shoot peaceful protesters and act more as a paramilitary group.

I know that from the 60s on, that it really hasn't changed.

I really don't think it will change. You can take it to court and get big bucks and the only thing that will suffer are the public and programs that will have to be cut to cover the cost.

Getting rid of the Mayor with recall would be nice!

It was reported on local news this evening that the identity of the officer isn't "known" yet nor from which municipality, since most came in from other communities.. I'm not sure if our local tv anchors are unwitting dupes, or simply duplicitous on this matter..

County official warns Oakland still lacks emergency response plan to treat injured

By Matt Smith on November 1, 2011 - 8:53 p.m. PDT

...

Olsen, 24, was participating in protests on Oct. 25 when he was struck in the head by a projectile. Riot police stood within 20 yards of where he lay and ambulance crews waited on standby two blocks away. Yet Olsen received medical treatment only after protesters dragged him more than two blocks, put him into a car and drove him to Highland Hospital.

“I turned around and was yelling directly at the police: ‘I need help. This guy is hurt,’” said Claire Chadwick, a Berkeley canvasser who was the first to assist the motionless Olsen. “But none of them moved.”

There are a few regs that were violated, from the shooting itself, all the way to not having an EMS response plan in place...I am not even going into the relatively minor ones. (Covering name tags for example)
