Bloomberg did not look happy when the poem was read. That lady revealed the classism and racism he allowed. It's a new day for NYC.

Taking Office, de Blasio Vows to Fix Inequity
snip//
"In his inaugural address, Mayor de Blasio described social inequality as a quiet crisis on a par with the other urban cataclysms of New Yorks last half-century, from fiscal collapse to crime waves to terrorist attacks, and insisted that income disparity was a struggle no less urgent to confront.
We are called to put an end to economic and social inequalities that threaten to unravel the city we love, he said to about 5,000 people at the ceremony, many beneath blankets on a numbingly cold day."

(297,207 posts)the De Blasios in Gracie Mansion even while I was living upstate. We went down to visit the City! What an opposite end of the spectrum!
I didn't know anything about Mayor John Lindsay except his name.. and I was in California at that time.. but, just reading a bit about him now, he seemed like he had quite an enduring source of inner strength.
My sister was in NYC last night.. babysitting while her daughter went out on the town.
