I like watching COPS, but one real concern that I experience while watching the marathon on Spike today is how much effort that Cops put into little finding small sizes of dope.
In two separate episodes, the cops made a huge deal of a little bag of coke or rock. Personally, if I were a cop, I could careless about dope unless it is the guy was the neighborhood "connect" and then I would totally go after him.
It seems when that cops search people, they make a real big deal about looking very small quantities of drugs and drug paraphernalia. In some ways, I just do not see a big need to put in cuffs unless the real purpose of arresting people is to place them into some mandatory diversion program in order for stop using illegal drugs.
I think that a lot of law enforcement at the street level are beholden to big money interests in prison-correction system that want continue funding for building jails and correction instead of treating people for drug offenses.
If people want to remain drug addicts and that creates potential for property and violent crime, then send off to jail for a short term. However, I just think it some form of invasion of privacy when cops search people excessively for just small amount of drugs.
