The 10 Most Powerful People in Central Florida

3. JOHN MORGAN

Attorney (Last year: 5th)

Mr. "For the People" has risen from TV pitchman to the most powerful unelected person on this list. Morgan, 56, runs of America's one of America's largest personal-injury firms and is closely connected to politicians at all levels and on both sides of the aisles. (Former governor and current candidate Charlie Crist is on his payroll. Barack Obama is a repeat houseguest. And Republican legislators in this state often kiss his ring and take his cash.) He's also a big-time philanthropist in town. And this year, Morgan is personally leading the statewide campaign to legalize medical marijuana.

I am assuming Morgan will be backing Crist against Scott.
The situation with legislators kissing his ring - reminds me of Dems in New Jersey kissing Christie's ass.
Both parties - BOTH PARTIES!!!!! - are seriously fucked up by chasing money and power, once elected. 99% of them are for sale to the highest bidder, IMO.

I am less disturbed by Morgan than I am by those Democrats who kiss the Third Way ring.

I know it's hard to see for people who don't live here, but the entire reason we have two uncompromising parties is to ensure there is a true adversarial opposition. It's the only way to truly protect the rights of the less fortunate.

But when money is being passed between the parties, you are never sure what is going on. Especially in this area which has strong "small government" communities who routinely run roughshod over the Fourteenth Amendment.

opposition.
I live near Tampa, actually. Sorry to be so cynical, but there are too many DINOs, especially at the federal level, for me to think that there is a true adversarial opposition that can be defined by the D or R next to a name.
And when I am admonished that hey, the Dem had to go along with the GOP just to get reelected - I wonder what rabbit hole I have fallen down.

It could be a case of "play along to get along" and he's just making
a token donation while giving a lot more to Dem/Lib causes.
