Could it be... Satan?

I truly believe that the Repugnant party has been taken over by the devil itself (given that you believe in that bullshit).

Those are the years when we can still change our habits to live healthier lives as we age. Losing weight, stopping alcohol or prescription drug abuse, quitting smoking, eating more vegetables, increasing exercise -- those are a few of the things that we can start to do in those years even if we couldn't do them during the child-bearing and child-raising years.

But often, we need a doctor's guidance in order to succeed in changing deeply ingrained habits like a poor diet or a lack of exercise. And that is why we need high quality insurance for a low price during those years. You put your finger on a serious problem.

High blood pressure is a common problem that may not be discovered until it is way out of control if health care during the 50-65 period is too expensive or does not cover an annual check-up and help with the cost of blood pressure medication.

No country with universal health care tolerates this. The reason is that, while costs for younger people are lower, they will eventually get old if they are lucky.

Besides, better prevention RAISES health care costs. Wildly successful twentieth century efforts in that regard are why there are so many old folks running around today in the first place.
