(50,560 posts)The bank account I have, I established in 2010. When I got it, they gave me the option to not get any checks, so I didn't. So far they haven't proven necessary.

(25,183 posts)I started paying my bills online, after my mother (who is 80 right now) shamed me into doing it, like she's been doing it for years. Mom has an iPad that she uses all the time, too!
I was darned lucky that she and Dad (RIP) adopted me.

(25,183 posts)And Dad, too. One of my earliest memories is them getting me to say "Kennedy!" at the age of four. We were pretty excited about that election, and equally deflated at his assassination.
My folks were liberal when it wasn't necessarily cool.

(4,112 posts)Since online banking arrived over ten years ago, I haven't written more than five checks a year! LOL That being true, however, your reminder is probably that much more important, so I thank you heartily and profusely!

(22,271 posts)when you pay by credit card or ATM, your purchases are tracked. Much more difficult to do when you write a check. Online banking is fine but there are lots of situations in which checks are preferable. One of those is that it takes a check 2 or 3 days to clear whereas credit charges and ATM withdrawals are immediate.

(22,271 posts)Your ageism doesn't make you clever, it makes you a bigot.
WillowTree
(5,325 posts)Secondly, considering the fact that I'm probably older than you, the "ageism" comment amuses me. Thanks for the smile.

(17,183 posts)Writing checks means I have to mail them. When I use a stamp, the USPS gets a little money. It's worth it to me to support them a little.

(22,271 posts)and I write a few checks. When my husband was still paying child support, those cancelled checks came in REAL handy when ex-wife claimed he wasn't paying. Brought the cancelled checks into court, presented them to the judge and ex-wife got HAMMERED by the judge for wasting the court's time. It was a beautiful thing.
