snip:
Mitch McConnell and his caucus are throwing a prolonged temper tantrum over the loss of their ability to prevent President Obama from staffing up a functional Executive Branch.
Republicans have couched their beef in the lofty language of the rights of the minority, but the cold hard political reality is that egos have been bruised, and as a consequence they are going to sacrifice the good of the country for some misguided personal retribution.
What McConnell and his band of Emily Thorne wannabes dont understand is that their plan for revenge could have grave consequences for their reelection campaigns. For example, if Republicans decide make the 1.3 million Americans who just lost their unemployment benefits suffer because they are mad at Harry Reid, an embattled candidate for reelection like McConnell will be handing his Democratic opponent a club to beat him over the head with in the fall. This same dynamic could play out to an even bigger degree on the bill to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, and on many other issues during 2014.
Mitch McConnell vowed revenge when Harry Reid changed the filibuster rules, and this scheme has the Kentucky minority leaders fingerprints all over it. The arrogant attempt to teach Democrats a lesson is bound to fail, and it could very well cost Republicans their chance to take control of the Senate, and Mitch McConnell his own Senate seat.

Now if that picture does not show what a dangerous feral animal the Senate minority leader is, none will!

(343 posts)Are you aware that a collection of commercials are now being rolled out nationwide, individually taylored against each Dem? Much more coordinated than in the past.
We need to stay informed and active nationwide. If Republicans capture the senate it will be all impeachment all the time and no judges, or justices, will be confirmed.

(5,477 posts)Seems to me there are enough topics to write about that actually have facts behind them. I'd argue that is much, much better for awareness.

(343 posts)I think the point of the article was to be sure we are aware and go on the offensive.
The one mention that seemed "plan" like was to blame Dems for filibuster changes, and any retaliatory measures are meant to protect the minority party.
That is my take.

The thing is "Emily Thorne" had good reason for "revenge".. Mitch McConnell and his band of do-nothing senators are only pretending they have a reason other than obnoxious hate of President Obama.
"The arrogant attempt to teach Democrats a lesson is bound to fail, and it could very well cost Republicans their chance to take control of the Senate, and Mitch McConnell his own Senate seat."
The US Senate losing Mitch McConnell would be like 10 Million new trees planted in fertile soil! Boom!

(6,688 posts)It's going to be an ugly primary. If he survives that beating it's unlikely he'll survive the general election. He knows it. All he'll do now is set himself up for lining his pockets and attempting whatever petty vendettas he has.

(17,656 posts)McConnell has nothing to lose by throwing everything the Senate Republicans can think of at Harry Reid and the Democrats in the Senate.
After more than a dozen years of political malaise, as control of the Senate shifted back and forth between the 2 parties in the Senate, while the Senate Republicans pretended as if they were doing their job, the Senate Republicans recently have been put on the political endangered species list . . . but no one is lifting a finger to save any of them.
McConnell is the biggest target in the Senate for the Democrats.
Don't think that McConnell doesn't know it.
The national Democratic party will raise and spend 10s of millions of dollars next year to defeat McConnell.
McConnell is the worst of the worst because he embodies the outright racist and ruthless, heartless policies of the wealthy social class society propagated by the Republican party.
McConnell is not just a symbol of what is wrong with the Republican party, he is also a symbol of what is wrong with some of the people in the United States.
People who support bureaucrats like McConnell, who is a special kind of white Duck Dynasty trash.

(8,821 posts)I get it that they are angry and want revenge, however, you seem to have left out what, exactly, they intend to try. The article linked to doesn't add any detail along those lines either. Are we just unsure what they plan to do for "revenge?"

(7,403 posts)So it makes one wonder what is really going on.
Before Obama there had been a grand total of 86 executive appointments filibustered in the history of the Senate. Since Obama and before the nuclear option there were 82 executive filibusters. I guess the minority didn't need protection before Obama.
