Trayvon Martin would be alive if Neighborhood Watch rules followed

We don't know everything that happened in the 13 minutes that passed between the time Zimmerman, 28, called police and a paramedic pronounced 17-year-old Trayvon Martin dead.

But this much isn't in dispute: Zimmerman was armed. He was alone. And while waiting for police, he somehow got into a fight with the person he thought suspicious.

All three of those actions are strongly discouraged by the National Sheriffs' Association, which oversees about 20,000 Neighborhood Watch programs.

There are practical reasons for those rules.

1. Trayvon probably was the victim of a build-up.

In the same county, in another town, a few months ago a woman caught a young man who had slipped in under the garage door which had been left slightly open to feed the neighborhood cat. She was the talk of the town. An older woman who had this young crook at gunpoint in her kitchen until the cops arrived.

Add to that how people talk around here. They know just enough of the law to know what they can get away with. I can't tell you how often I've heard, "no jury would find him guilty," when they talk about situational ethics. What I would never, never do around here is walk into a person's house that I don't get along with, even if I were invited.

2. Neighborhood watch is supposed to observe and report - NEVER engage a suspect

This NW captain was obviously a rambo-lite idiot. He left his car. He should be prosecuted for manslaughter at the least. Had he stayed in his car that teenager would still be alive.

PLEASE GO TO CHANGE.ORG AND SIGN THE PETITION, "CHARGE TRAYVON MARTIN'S KILLER" SO THAT ANOTHER PERSON WILL NOT GET AWAY WITH VIGILANTISM, TAKING THE LAW INTO THEIR OWN HANDS.

THIS CHILD WAS ONLY WALKING HOME FROM THE STORE WHILE A GAME HE AND HIS FATHER WAS WATCHING ON TV, TO PURCHASE A SNACK. ZIMMERMAN BEGAN TO FOLLOWER THIS BOY IN HIS CAR WHEN HE WAS WALKING HOME, ZIMMERMAN JUMPED OUT OF HIS CAR AND "CONFRONTED" TRAYVON AFTER PHONE THE POLICE THAT TRAYVON WAS A "SUSPICIOUS" PERSON; BY THE TIME THE POLICE ARRIVED ZIMMERMAN WAS STANDING OVER TRAYVON WITH A GUN IN HIS WAISTBAND AND TRAYVON WAS LYING ON THE GROUND DYING FROM A GUNSHOT WOUND TO THE CHEST.

THERE IS TOO MUCH THAT IS WRONG WITH THIS STORY FOR ZIMMERMAN TO HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN CHARGED WITH ANY CRIME. ZIMMERMAN HAS A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE AND HARASSMENT.

HELP US AT LEAST MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A TRIAL, OR THIS IS GOING TO SIGNAL EVERY HOTHEAD, VIGILANTE, AND WANNABEE KILLER THAT THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH MURDER AS LONG AS IT IS THERE WORD AGAINST THE WORD OF THE DEAD VICTIM.
