General Discussion

1. I will not jump to conclusions based on an article, especially if the information in it has been given out quickly, to make the news, rather than accurately.
2. I will not jump to conclusions based on a post by a DUer until I make sure I have clarified what they mean as internet and forum communication can easily miss those cues face to face discussions have.
3. I will not blame others for taking something I wrote wrongly, especially if there is more than 1 of them, instead look at what I wrote to see if I can clarify or if I need to change what I wrote/ how I think.
4. I will not post broadbrush or stereotyping posts as even asshole individuals are individuals.
5. I will contribute to discussions in a positive way, saving snark for rare cases rather than helping make DU suck more.
6. I will appreciate the differences we have, realizing we come from different places, have different strengths, weaknesses, hot points.
7. I will accept I do not know everything and learn from others rather than primarily trying to have them learn from me.
8. I will break all of these at some point, but use this list as a guide to better use DU and appreciate my DU friends.
Happy New Year DU and DUers.

(38,506 posts)No way am I going to sit here and blame myself for the decline in quality on the board. It would be nice if they would enforce the TOS once in a while, but they hardly ever do.

(8,554 posts)after reading your resolutions and agreeing that those are worthy guidelines to follow, I came upon an individual asshole...
Seriously, these are fine resolutions, things that I do normally consider when participating here.
Thanks and a Happy 2014 to you, uppityperson!

(37,573 posts)I mean, look at #7. How can I accept that, when the fact of the matter simply is that I DO know everything?
Also, doesn't it seem like those who keep that resolution will simply be "learning" from those who don't?
I don't think there is anything wrong with teaching others, or attempting to. I think it is a larger problem when somebody, instead of teaching and guiding people who don't know what they know, choose instead to berate and belittle them. That's not what a good teacher does, it's more like what a class bully does.
and then there's point #8. Clearly I do not meet the pre-requisite for keeping that one, since it would require me to actually have "DU friends".
