White Father and Son Viciously Attack Black Woman
TURLOCK — A father and son were arrested and charged with committing a hate crime in a bar attack early last week, according to Turlock police.
Charges of aggravated assault and committing a hate crime were filed against Eddie Taylor, 53, and Eddie Taylor Jr., 25, said Turlock police Cpl. Joey Rodriguez. The charges stem from a fight at Staley’s Club shortly after 2 a.m. Monday.
“There were several people involved. We have one victim identified. We believe it was motivated on the basis of a hate crime,” Rodriguez said, declining to give the basis of the hate crime.
The victim’s mother, however, said it occurred because her daughter is black. The mother, who contacted The Bee but asked that her name not be used to protect her daughter’s safety, said the two men repeatedly called her daughter a racial epithet while beating her unconscious.
“She’s not the same. Her speech is slurred and slow. Her jawline was knocked crooked,” said the mother. Her daughter works two jobs and often went to Staley’s after her night job ended, she said, but since the beating has had to take time off.
“She’s just really scared because she heard the guys bailed out of jail,” the mother said.
The Stanislaus County Jail does not list either man as being in custody.
