(attempted) Murder by ceramic squirrel

A South Carolina woman was held on a domestic abuse charge for allegedly stabbing her common-law husband with a decorative ceramic squirrel when he came home late on Christmas Eve without any beer.

The woman, Helen Ann Williams, 44, of an address on Clifton Street in North Charleston, was in the Charleston County jail on $10,000 cash bond, jail records showed Friday. She faces a hearing in Charleston County Circuit Court in April on a felony charge of domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

According to the police report, Williams' 41-year-old husband set out to buy some beer late Tuesday night, but he returned home empty-handed because the stores were closed.

That enraged Williams, according to the report, and as her husband set about making himself a sandwich, she picked up the ceramic squirrel and conked him over the head with it. Then she stabbed him in the chest with it, the report said.

The man fled to a neighbor's home to call 911, and when officers arrived shortly after midnight — on Christmas Day by now — they found him covered in blood with cuts on his shoulder and face, according to the report. When he took off his shirt, they found a big gash in his chest, it said.

I would be accused (as others have) of posting negative stories about women.

So, I held the door open for the title and watched it walk away

Initially, Williams tried to persuade police that her husband fell, but officers were skeptical because she also had blood on her hands and clothes, the report said.

Williams' husband was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening wounds, NBC station WCBD of Charleston reported.

The condition of the squirrel wasn't reported.

Why isn't it in Weird News group?

TBH the sudden appearance of threads such as this seems to indicate they are flame bait. If the intent is just to raise awareness of criminal activity I would suggest the posters post the far more common and less publicised stories of men harming and killing women

That does not bode well for equal treatment.

But as I say you are only publicising crime I have no doubt you will in time put out stories of men killing, harming, beating and raping women - won't you?

Interesting.

I don't recall anyone jumping on previous stories.

I recall posting this, on which some members were awfully quiet on:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024222933

here is on on Jameis Winston

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024107233

One on cops hitting female protestors (protesting stricter abortion law)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024230790

******

Would you like, perhaps, to set up a group to clear all posts based on gender and such before they are posted? Maybe a running tally somewhere on the screen that shows how many stories are currently active based on race, gender, etc?

Or is it, perhaps, some folks just like to find a reason to feel they are being picked on and will read into posts what they want to see?

As for the rest of your post...nobody denies that some men do bad things to women. Some women also do bad things to men, though, no matter how badly some of you want that to be ignored. When it happens, it's news. Yes, it's often news because it's not as common and because a lot of people just don't think that women are capable of such violent acts.
