How do some of you survive 3D?
Now I have a cheesecake to make. I sincerely this blows over soon, because it's depressing as hell.

...I almost choked on my lunch. That sounds freakin' magnificent! I haven't made a cheesecake in years. My old springform pan sprung a leak and I just kind of lost the will to go on. But, I did finally ask Santa for one this year. That and a new crepe pan and quiche pan.

Is it like a bad attack with helicopters and a strong ground force? Or one of those sneaky drone out of nowhere attacks? Or like the Klingon mating ritual, where she throws stuff at you while you read her love poetry?

I have to say Klingon mating rituals sound a lot more fun.

(12,041 posts)It is not just men being attacked, there are men on this site who seem to love to fan the flames and provoke a response.
I think people on both sides of the battle need to do a better job of being respectful, and to be honest posts like this one which act as if it is only one side being attacked do not help the situation at all.

If I were here more often, I think I'd do a better job of remembering that.
EDIT: also, what brings down a discussion is when a person purposefully misinterprets a post. The blatant practitioners are pretty clear and I think they are well-recognized by regular DUers who haven't just ignored the whole schmeeer,

(19,537 posts)As a 50 plus single man, I've stayed out of these threads. It feels bad to see many people that have had legitimately bad experiences, both men and women, and having difficulty dealing with other situations where perhaps the others they might meet might appear to lead them in to such situations that are seen as a threat to them. It makes me almost afraid sometimes to even try to even glance at at all or try to talk to and meet other women I might not know now. Hoping my comments don't get misconstrued here.
Comments like yours restores faith for me that and I think others here that there are many out there who would seek a friendship of value to both of us. Thanks! For every woman that only wants attractive men to look at her (I don't know how many really fit this stereotype), I'll bet there are many that would love to have decent men of many ages and appearances not to be intimidated by this and to have healthy initial exchanges that could lead to a friendship, or just be a happy exchange of two strangers that remind us all that we are in a world that should be celebrating community of us all. That by no means excuses those that would try to intimidate woman by leering at them and threatening them in so doing. We as men should probably also call some of these men out when they do it in wrong ways to help provide a greater feeling of a place of public safety for all of us in public.

(20,600 posts)for a while. A lot of Duers don't care to be lectured or is interested in their wacky philosophies. Personally, I'd rather hear about scientology if I'm in the mood for off the wall philosophies, at least those would be entertaining. And then swarming threads to try and group attack any who dare disagree with them isn't exactly creating a pleasant atmosphere either. Just a thought.

No one attacked men. They criticized a behavior of men who do creepy ass things to women in public spaces cause they feel they have a right to. And when particular men decide that women are wrong about their experience and that women should wear burkas if they don't want the attention, well... they got some criticism too. Too bad... boo hoo.

(53,035 posts)You mean a PSA from India that is too progressive and enlightened for you to cope with? The idea that manhood does not hinge on predatory behavior and that most men can actually behave appropriately in public and don't see anti-harassment and anti-rape campaigns as a personal attack?
The idea that there is anything "wacko" about the basic message that harassment and assault is wrong is pretty shocking to me. Is there some reason you believe men by nature to be incapable of behaving like civilized members of society?
For the record, this is the "wacko" philosophy you so object to.
Men don't behave like this. Men don't harass women, tell them if they don't want to be followed, jeered and assaulted in public they should war burkas or stay in the home. That is the behavior of predators. This is a man: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4220427
Perhaps one day the perpetually aggrieved on this site will aspire to the level of enlightenment and advanced thinking displayed by the men in India who made this PSA. I will not hold my breath, however. Them seem to have created a political philosophy out of their own warped views that men by nature are driven to engage in predatory behavior. It saddens me that they think so poorly of themselves.

(53,035 posts)I saw some men who decided to take this PSA personally. Looks to me like they attacked themselves.
The idea that if a man isn't allowed to be a predator means he is attacked is highly disturbing. Such a view signals a very low opinion of men that I myself don't happen to share. I know that the vast majority of men are perfectly capable of acting in reasonable ways that don't include preying on women--whether harassing or assaulting them--in pubic spaces. But if you feel compelled to protect those who see their manhood linked to predatory behavior, that truly is unfortunate.
I'm also sorry you feel the men of DU are too weak to stand up for themselves. I generally assume everyone is quite capable of advancing and defending his or her own ideas.
