Offensive tweet gets PR executive canned.

PR executive Justine Sacco fired after insensitive tweet goes global

A public relations executive for the prominent New York-based Internet media company IAC lost her job on Saturday after she posted a message joking about AIDS in Africa and race on her Twitter account, sparking an online furor.

"Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white!" Justine Sacco, who was IAC's corporate communications director, wrote in a message on Twitter on Friday, shortly before taking a flight.

The Twitter account has since been deleted, though not before the message was widely circulated online.

IAC, which had earlier condemned the message, said on Saturday that Sacco and the company have now "parted ways".

I'm sure it had nothing to do with the internet backlash though...

Obviously on top of being incredibly stupid she is way under qualified for the job since avoiding this kind of stuff is her field.

...and am still shaking my head over the possible intent behind her tweet.

My less than educated guess about intent is that although Africa is fraught with AIDSs, she's safe because, as a white person, she would never be having sex with anyone black in the first place. Phew!
So ignorant.

It blows my mind that anyone would obsessively compulsively post their every random thought in real time. I've always thought that facebook is bad, but Twitter... is a fucking minefield of mental illness on display.

Twitter was at its finest last night with people bringing attention to this classless racism. Google tracked her flight in air too...hopefully they told her at the airport that she had pissed the whole world off.
