(34,179 posts)Looking at that article, there are a lot of things going on that aren't being said(like, since this wasn't involving students, who did it involve).
I would wait and see what further revelations come out, and what the trial brings.

(31,997 posts)like she had to change teachers to proctor for and he had to stop coaching the girls track team.
She has been out of school for 3 years now so I am really not worried about her having to defend herself as a female, but I do wonder if she had to.
I also teach and when I have just boys in my classroom, I always leave the door open.

(34,179 posts)No matter who is in the classroom. Guys in teaching walk a real tightrope when it comes to these things, and can get burned all too easily. That's why I'm more wait and see with this incident.
If he is guilty, then he needs to be given the full penalty of the law, and then let me beat the crap out of him for making my job still more difficult.

(96,793 posts)And I tell new teachers to do the same.
I have a friend who spends time outside of school with her students. Really stupid idea.

(6,238 posts)but part of me thinks it sucks that teachers can't be more involved in their students lives for fear of getting accused of stuff like this. Granted, I'm not a teacher so maybe even if this weren't an issue it would still be bad from a teaching standpoint, I don' know, just a thought that occurred to me as I read your post.

If they have anything to back that up, its more than a 'he said/she said'.

(31,997 posts)if he was a creep, well I am horrified because he was a teacher that inspired a lot of students.

(100,081 posts)It's standard procedure. My mom is an educator and has had to deal with abuse cases like this. It always sucks for all sides involved.

(31,997 posts)or just leave it be and let her discover this on her own.
She insisted years ago that he did nothing wrong when he was removed from the track coach job. Said students just didn't like him because he wasn't a pushover on grades.
I just don't see how she can ignore this

(36,286 posts)had been shifted to our parish as part of pedophile roulette. (This was around 1984 or so) He baptized at least one of my kids, maybe others as well. (I've never gone back to confirm the others.) It gives me the creeps.

(26,117 posts)As far as I know, he didn't ever touch any students - just had photos that he traced over and drew on in lewd and shockingly disturbing ways.
I never felt he was inappropriate while I was on the team, but in retrospect, it's kind of creepy. He would pat us on the back, put his arm around our shoulders in what seemed a fatherly way, etc. His wife was an elementary school teacher who remained in deep denial even after things became public.
We (as a society) put a lot of trust in those who interact with our children; it's awful when that trust turns out to be misplaced.
Edited to add: I'm sorry this is happening so close to you.
