Nelson offers to go to Iran to help find Levinson

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson offered this week to travel to Iran to help find and retrieve Bob Levinson, a missing Coral Springs man who reportedly worked as a spy for the CIA.

The Florida Democrat would be the first member of Congress to make such a trip to Iran in at least three decades, his staff said on Wednesday.

Nelson said he would meet with top Iranian officials if it would help bring home Levinson, a retired FBI agent who disappeared on Kish Island off the coast of Iran in March 2007. His family last received proof that he was alive in 2011.

“If the Iranian authorities took him, somebody in the government of Iran knows of his whereabouts,” Nelson told the Senate.
